Hobby Japan August 2006 MP-3 Starscream Article

And for the people claiming "The new mold is less show accurate": Did you actually notice how the back wings are completely removable? That actually makes the second mold more show accurate than the first mold... :wave

Are you talking about the jet wings that are on his back in robot mode? Or the tailfins from the jet mode?

The tailfins. I believe it actually says so in the Japanese text.

That's what I thought...it was just that I got confused when yuo said the "back wings"...because that could've been referring to his big wings, which were also detatchable on the original G1 toy.

Oh, and I can't read japanese  :tflaugh1

That's where my opinion and the one of Joshlowe diverge. He consider the respect of the character as a more important point. For him, MP is about the character, for me, it's about the sheer of details and the look and respect of the both modes. From there, I can undestand why he is not pleased.

Thank you.

From a technical and detailed pov, the Binaltech/Alts are masterpieces.

The RX8 in particular remains unrivalled in terms of solid robots that disguise themselves as realistic cars.

But they don't label it Masterpiece.

They don't insist it remains die-cast and sell it in the west for $50 or so.

And the Hybrids are technical masterpieces too.

But again, they don't market them as masterpieces.

Masterpeice is a just a name of a line, and the purpose of a line's name is to inform buyers that the figure inside has the qulalities unique to that line.

The only thing unique to this line, up until this second Starscream, has been it's repsect for the character in the form or forms that became engrained in the public consciousness prior to it's release.

That's why I expect that, that's why I don't consider it a masterpiece when it stops doing that.

well, maybe except for Hound, all the alt/binal have got a new bot mold too. It's realy about an update of G1.

So is classic but with non official alt mode.

Hybrid is simply the tiny version of MP, and is not centered around G1

Masterpieces stay near G1. His purpose is to be a more or less accurate homage to the first years of TF. Also, it is big. I'm not sure about it, but I think Starscream is in scale with optimus in bot mode. I don't know how to check that for sure.

Did I miss something?

I'm not sure about that...the hip panels are longer than the legs. The top looks like it would jut out and probably look worse than having them on the hips.

But hey, what do I know - I'm not engineering the damn thing.

Agreed, I think puttingthem on the legs would be awkward and that is why they are not there now.

-1:24 scale vehicle mode

A 1:24 scale F15 would be over 2.5 feet long.

Just saying is all.

edit: Wonderfully apt comparison compliments GIS :tflaugh

1/32 which is what MP prime is, would be around 2 feet long.  I would have found that acceptable, but it's pretty big and I'm not japanese.

Pasquale

I'm getting this because it's a goddamned awesome Transformer, period!

THANK YOU

Fans complaining like little children does NOT help the production of cool toys (made for kids, but) aimed at adults.

It looks sweet. It's an awesome toy. The only reason I can find that any of you are complaining when I get to the bottom of the muck is that they're going to want to sell it for more than you want to pay for it. If it were $10 bucks retail, we wouldn't have five pages of debate over the best looking Starscream toy to date.

If people don't like the way it looks the to them it's not an awesome toy to them.

If people think it's not whast the line is about, then it's still not an awesome toy to them.

I do NOT think this is the best looking Starscream to date.

I think the first one was, but the second one resembles (as others have said) more traditional Japanese mech designs.

I'm not a traditional Japanese mech fan.

If I was bicthing about this figure on a board dedictaed to traditional mech, that would be retarded, I mean why would I be there in the first place?

But I'm not, I'm Starscreaming about it on a TRANSFORMERS board, where many designs are not usually traditionally mech.

If this was a line that was built up around redesigning Transformers with that more traditional mech style, again (such as the hybrid), I would be retrded posting as I'd should never have bought into the line in the first place.

But it's not; it's a line that delivers, that made it's name on bringing us the most G1 accurate versions of the most famous character.

G1 being anything that was incorporated in their design during the Generation 1 period, not since.

I'm talking about likes and dislike on one level, I'm talking about what a Masterpiece is supposed to be and questioning whether they have lost their way or changed the emphaisis to the point where the G1 empahsis will eventually become little more than nods inside otherwise new figures on another level, I'm questioning whether it was intedned as a high end Alt and they deicded to market is as a Masterpiece on yet another level.

And it goes on like that.

Even if I liked the changes, I'd still not think they were in keeping with what the Masterpiece line was about.

Just like Hybrid's machine gun gas tanks were cool, an improvement, but not what I'd expect on the Masterpiece line.

IT'S NOT ABOUT MONEY!

NOT EVERYONE THINKS THIS IS THE BEST STARSCREAM TO DATE!

ASIDE FROM PERSONAL PREFERENCES, THE CHANGE IN EMPHASIS RAISES QUESTIONS ABOUT THE FUTURE DIRECTION OF THE LINE!

If I were a fanboy, I'd lap this up.

I'd be so desperate for my G1 fix, I'd close my mind or play down or ingnore all the things I think suck about this because underneath it all is my little fanwank dream.

"I don't like this, but..."

"I can see how it's not completely G1 Starscream anymore, but there's enough for me to grab onto..."

"I'm such a retarded junkie in need of a fix that I'm grateful for anything they throw at us with the name attatched, we should all praise them for belssing us with such wonderment. I'll buy it regardless and if you're not the same, clearly you're wrong..>"

I'm not.

On one hand I'm a consumer.

If a product or line makes a name for itself, I expect it to continue to deliver everything that it made it's name on, everything.

Not some things, not most things, everything.

On the second hand I'm a fan inside the fandom.

I see the changes made to Starscream, I see the emphasis on small Japanese figures. And whilst I'm for one, and against the other, I believe BOTH (and a few others) are genuinely concerning developments that may have a very large impact on the future of the franchise.

If it were a $10 figure and it did all the same things, raised all the same questions, then I'd be talking EXACTLY as I am here.

Maybe that's alien to you, but some of us still show more interest in the principles and reasoning behind what we see and not just look at what is unquestioningly.

dude transformers got alot of thier human like look in the cartoon thanks to gundam and the toys were designed in japan so transformers are just japanese robots in an american box kthx

as for screamer if you dont like him fine but please STFU i dont want to read 10 pages on why were all wrong and you and you alone think its an alt and how you dont think its a cool as that last proto was (you see i just summed it all up in a few lines its that easy)

That's sick.

i prefer the old design too and stuff
