Nice details on the vehicle mode, sometimes it's the small things that really bring it all together and make it look finished.  I still think the robot mode needs something though!

Hey squall, what's this vinyl striping you're talking about?  Looks real nice, I'd like to give this stuff a shot if I can...

Its called Pactra Trim Tape...its like pinstriping for a car...

TT25.jpg

You can buy it at most model stores or at Testors.com

It comes it a pretty wide variety of colors, and MOST colors are easily removeable if you don't like the results.  (the only color I've ever had a problem with is black...it just leaves the sticky residue all over...while all the other colors seem to have a different adhesive, and yes, I've tried multiple ones, so I didn't get a bad batch...hahaha)

I like using this stuff cause...I always fell like when a custom is like 90% complete, and all you need is a stripe or something, you don't want to fudge it up by making a mistake with the paint, or risking the paint running under your beautiful masking job (I know its happened to everyone)

This stuff...its pretty durable too...I've used it on a lot of my customs

Thanks for the info.  :thumb

I'm JUST in need for something like this for my next 2 upcoming small customs, and I really don't feel like doing an extensive masking job...  I'll see if I can find any of this stuff around here.  :)

Finished Robot Mode:

(I added a little red to the forearms and to the upper legs, as well as some silver to the upper shoulders, and the Decepticon Symbols)

Everyone will probably be a little disappointed to hear that its almost near impossible to attach the "antlers" as running boards...because of the lack of anything to connect the pieces too...(look at the bottom of a transformed Prime)  Where the pegs would connect, there is nothing to connect to, and anything I could put there would interfere with the Transformation.

I might have figured out a way to put them in the back side of the "backpack" that the Prime mold has (the piece that connects to the windshield.

The side cannon...well...I'll think of something eventually...

Squall this kicks just too much arse! I'm still blown away on how you pulled it off. I can't say enough about it! Can't wait to see what surpise you come up with next. How hard was prime to take apart and repaint. I just bought three of them and plan to use two for repainting. Any advice you have or tips is appreciated!

Later,

Blu

Superb, that totally finished the piece up and it looks great!

.......How hard was prime to take apart and repaint. I just bought three of them and plan to use two for repainting. .........

WTF?!? How the hell did you find 3 of them?

I have been stopping by the walmart by me now for the past few weeks on my days off to scan the aisles. This time the persistence paid off as I found them not in the TFormers section but on the top shelf in the hotwheels/model car aisle. I decided to grab them. I had to stand on a lower shelf to grab them but I didn't care. I have been wanting to paint up my own Nemesis Prime and not drop the money on the disgusting price they are fetching for preorders on them, plus I wanted to make a Trailbreaker out of one as well along with keeping the other one for display. Look where you least expect to find them in Walmart. I don't know if somebody was hiding them or what but oh well my gain now. Only other Alts I could find were Rollbar, one Ricco, SS and a couple skids.  :eplus  :mwahaha

Thats awesome that you were able to find a few extra Optimus Primes!  What part of the country are you located in?  (Might give some of us hope of finding him in our own backyards...)

I have the one I keep as Optimus, and the one I turned into Megs here, but both of those I got from trades...so I have never seen one out in the wilds of retail!

I have so many ideas for the Prime mold...he's got a lot of potential!

As far as taking Prime apart he is not bad...he's a LOT of pins and screws...he's worth his weight in metal!  Haha...

The tough part with the Prime mold is that it takes so long to get him apart.  The hood alone is a very intricate construction...and has numerous pins and hidden screws.

Most of the problems you will run into are from getting him to transform once he's painted...my recommendation would be to sand the hell out of his inner legs, and the bottom of the rear hatch.

There are also two pins that hold the blue hinge that is attached to the hood.  These two pins are impossible to get out, so I just heated them up and forced them out the other side.  Otherwise, they are impossible...

Other than that he's pretty easy...but if you or anyone else runs into trouble just PM me, and I'll try to remember what I did.

Awesome and thanks Squall! I'm in a podunk small town in upstate NY. Sometimes I think I am the only collector or buyer of TF's in it. LOL Runs hot and cold here for the most part with finding stuff.
