Do you guys often use Ebay bidding programs?

Recommended Posts

Hello again.

I'm curious about the use of sniping programs.  When I'm selling something I often get a higher number of bidders than watchers.  So some of these people are probably just seeing my auction for the first time that day and placing a bid of course, but because of the timing (I live in Japan) I wonder how some of these people stay up so late or get up early to bid...

Some buyers have mentioned they used a snipebot or something, including overbidding by accident.

So, how widespread is this? Anyone have experiences to share?

I mean no offense, but does it matter?

Or are you just curious?  I don't use one, but I'd be interested depending on ease of use and success rate.

And it isn't "sniping", it is strategic timing.

i usually stay up until all hours of the night to see something end

never use any.

i stay up till the end but if i have to work and stuff i'll bid how much i want to pay for it but i hate doing that because it gives the other person a chance to outbid me.

what is a snipbot and from what i know i dont like him lol

be bless dan

ps whats going on wth my order????

Honestly, I hate being up against bidders using sniping programs.

There's a great distinction between software sniping and strategic bid timing- I've had a sniper bid 5 times against me in the last 5-10 seconds of an auction.  This pushed the price up, but fortunately not enough to beat my bid.  Human bidding, even strategically-timed bidding, just can't compete against a sniping program unless you outbid by brute force.

It still all comes down to what you are willing to pay for an item.  If you put in your max and it gets outbid, then what have you lost?  And if you win, then you've gained something for at most the max you were already willing to pay.

I hate getting outbid as well, but it is usually by someone willing to pay more than me so screw it.  There will be more chances in the future.

We have this discussion often here it seems.

those programs take all the fun out of it, i prefer to wait, even if it's a grave yard shift auction, i'll stay up just to bid

I have stayed up until 4Am to see an auction end.  Sniping programs are great, but I refuse to pay for them to bid for me.

i agree with this sentiment.  i do the whole max bid thing but i'll never use a program or website to do it for me.  i got sniped the other day on a reissue rodimus major.  i'm limited on my funding so i enter in the max i can bid but if i do get outbid i might be able to do a dollar or two more, but it all depends on waht kinda money we got and i hafta ask the wife bout that just kuz she's the one that keeps up with the finances.  when ya get sniped you don't have that chance.  i normaly don't bid though until the last hour or so because it drives me nuts if i'm bidding on something for days at a time.
