I think astrotrain just said that becuse he was pissed off that his plan from Triple Takeover didn't work.

thats a good point actually, the extra weight would actually give astrotrain more momentum.

I hear what you're saying greensight, but if you were going to put your crew into stasis in order to conserve fuel on long voyages (a mechanical equivalent of cryostasis as we see in the Alien movies) then why would you wipe their minds? If a Transformer was placed into a stasis pod for that reason, it would be more like what we saw with Protoform-X -- a protoform with pre-exisiting memories and personality. Considering that X was a convicted mass-murderer who never underwent a Mindwipe, I fail to see how the rest of the Axalon's expeditionary crew would deserve having something as immoral as a complete mental wipe performed on them.

mass does, and the two are synonymous for most people.  By getting rid of some of the beaten up decepticons, they could get back to cybertron and repair faster, because he could accerate quicker.

but momentum would only prevent him from being knocked off course.  There's no friction in space, so extra momentum wouldn't really help him get there faster.  However, By throwing the beaten decepticons backwards from astrotrain's direction of motion (as they did in the movie), they would recieve an extra kick (from newton's 3rd law) that would actually increase thier velocity and get them back to cybertron faster.

But he would still get to Cybertron. Astrotrain didn't say "or we'll never make it to Cybertron on time.
