Alternators Rumble Pics

Recommended Posts

apart from the head colours i want this figure. if he gets released n the uk that will be the slight repaint i shall attempt

You know no one has mentioned it yet, but when pictures of Silverstreak first showed up, he too had a black face.  Maybe that too will change before he reaches the shelves.

That was a proto shot. The first official Silverstreak photos shown was on Transformers.com and it was 2 high res pics form the BT Streak booklet. Im not saying it cant change by the release, Cause Prowl is shown with Dark gray Legs, But this pic of Rumble is one of Hasbro's official shiney metal look pics. Those pics tend to be final.

Really dude, that X-Brawn thing was pretty cool. Though It didn't look like it had hands... I still like it better.

Rumble will definitely get my purchase regardless.

I loathe significantly asymmetrical toys.  My collection of several hundred has maybe 5.  They're still here because it'd cost more to ship them than I'd get on eBay (#1 reason I usually don't buy single GoBots, $1 or $3 is great until you're hit wiith $5 or $10 to ship).

Frankly though, I disagree with the whole FIRRIB thing.  I mean it is just a way us fans are more used to them,

But it still doesn't hurt to try a li'l subliminal messaging...

Maybe you comic readers are, but Sunbow Animation set the standard for me.  Really, with the way the comic was colored sometimes (sorry Seibertron, couldn't find mine to scan), how can you use it as a baseline?  The strongest argument for FIBRIR has always been the name printed on the package IMO, which'd hold alot less weight if we were talking about a modern toy with just any needs-to-be-retrademarked-or-we'll-lose-it name slapped on it.

In any case, they've deviated so far from what sold me on Alternators/Binaltech in the first place that its relation to this particular figure (which looks OK on its own, removed from those expectations) is not something I'll make too much of a fuss about...

^ I know that was the early 80s but were they only alloyed 8 colors at once? Then, did they let a 5 year old color them?

Unfortunately Tman the answer is more "yes" than you might think.

Nearly every superhero has had his design taylored to the 4-color process.

I think it was when Image came out that they really blew open the Mainstream Computerized coloring for comics.

This debate about Rumble/Frenzy being red/blue is Powerglideing stupid. To my limited knowledge he was purple in the show and imo that set the standard. The only reason I can think of that Hasbro would release a red mold opposed to a toon accurate purple mold is because of there full intention to release Frenzy later as a straight blue repaint later. Personally I salute Hasbro, there's no way they can possibly fail with this release or both for that matter. After the dysmal response to Prime this is exactly what Hasbro needs to bring in the fans, and big bucks.  :thumb

As for this toon accurate vs toy accurate debate. Both sides make good points about how the character/toy should be presented. I personally prefer toon accurate since again that was the standard set by many reguardless of how the toy looked. I definitely prefer my Prime with clear windows and blue eyes. Why every incarnation of Prime with the exceptions of MP Prime, Alt Prime, and Machinewars Prime has had yellow eyes is beyond me. :wtf

I do think nostalgia plays a large part in it, no matter what.

For example, my first memories of Optimus Prime are of the toy, which had yellow eyes, and of the artwork on the back of the boxes, which again showed a yellow-eyed Prime. I also disliked the way the cartoon people gave every Autobot blue eyes and every Decepticon red eyes, especially because it didn't match up with toys that I had (such as Soundwave, Jetfire, Grimlock, etc.). So I was more biased towards "toy accuracy", though this did get better in 1985 when they started to design the show models to better resemble the toys.

That said, I completely understand that for a lot of people, the cartoon is what they remember with greatest fondness, and since Prime (and every other Autobot) had blue eyes in the cartoon, that's more like who Prime "is" to them. Which is fine. It's just not my experience.

Same thing with Rumble. I had the toy, and I always thought the red and black color scheme looked better. Not to mention the fact that I also thought Frenzy was like "Rumble Lite" and didn't really add much to the show. So to me I always preferred Rumble as the red and black guy, because I wanted to match the cooler character (in my opinion) with the cooler color scheme. And anyway, it did say "Rumble" on the card, so I felt like I wasn't just making his name up.

But again, I know that for some people, it was all about the cartoon. That's fine too. I guess the only thing I bristle at is when people make statements like "it should/must be this way". Well maybe for you it should, but what about everyone who doesn't share your opinion? Aren't they just as entitled to fanwank as you are? (of course, you could make the case that none of us are, but I want to stay focused here. :tfgrin) I remember Rumble as red and black. You remember him as blue and purple. Is there a way for Hasbro to satisfy everyone? Of course not. They've got to pick something. So they did. Of course, personally I prefer Alt Rumble being these colors, but if he'd been released in blue/purple, I would have understood why. I may not have personally liked it, but I recognize that there's a difference between what I prefer and what everyone else out there might prefer. So meh.

Intricate little Starscream.

*argues*

IMO the Homage-Alts are a combination of toy and toon, at least to the extent that they're homages at all. And as has been said a bazillion times before, the US cartoon is the only thing that switched the names. Everything else has always been RIRFIB.

not that I relish that debate again, but you know it's coming

Ok, the question is, is the G1 cartoon the thing you base your transformers mythos on?

Personally I don't give two turds about the Marvel comic, pure crap.  Don't even get me started on their coloring, inconsistent doesn't even begin to discribe it.

The G1 toy line was re-releases of toys from other lines.  The toon came up with the characters I care about.  The toys were attemps at having representations of the Toon characters I loved.

Hastak has screwed up plenty of homages for various reasons over the past ten years,  both in their toys and in their toons, so really, for me and many others, the G1 Cartoon is the authority.  It is the source.  That is why I'm making a G1 Skyfire.  He was the character.  Jetfire was just a toy, just a macross repaint.  Thats why I want an anime accurate Bumblebee head.  Thats why I want my G1 prime to have blue eyes and tinted windows.  That is why I will never buy a G1 Ironhide (headless freak).

And apparently Hastak understands that at points.  Look at THS02 or Masterpiece Convoy.  Do they have yellow eyes?  Are their chest windows smoky clear?  No, because it is more important to reference the G1 Cartoon than the G1 Toy.  And THAT is why Rumble is Blue and Frenzy is Red.

First of all, MP Convoy was made to look like the cartoon because no one ever got a cartoon accurate one and the reason they never got  a cartoon accurate one is because the cartoonists screwed up and barely made the cartoon model close to the toy, and THS Convoy was made to look like MP Convoy except smaller. Look at the Cybertron cartoon, are the toys accurate to the cartoon model, yes, because the cartoon models are based on the toys and so are Beast Wars, Energon, Armada cartoon models. Does that sum it up for ya, if it doesn't I don't know what does. :tfmad

So why did they put those extraneous silver stripes on MP Convoy's upper arms? It didn't line up with the silver stripe in his alt mode. And it wasn't in the cartoon.

But it was on the toy... :eek

and yes I'm just being annoying
