armada wheeljack question

Recommended Posts

Everyone's got an opinion. I actually liked a lot of Armada. Some of it could have been better, but it was a really fun line overall. I still want that Universe Spacewarp.

:pfx Still kicking myself for not grabbing either Thundercracker or Skywarp when I had the chance. :redface

The Armada line wasn't the best line ever but it did have a lot of fun toys. Personally I really liked Hotshot, Redalert, Jetfire, Scavenger and Overload. Wheeljack not so much. The alt is solid but the bot despite a decent transformation  imo is to rigid. Looks like he belongs in the G1 line moreso then any of the others.

Scavenger is a crap toy IMO. Regarding the "step backwards" comment, I think one thing that hurt Armada compared to BW and RiD was because they sacrificed things like high-articulation for the gimmicks. Some Armada toys were more gimmicky than others... Scavenger, IMO, is an example of an Armada toy that suffers from its gimmick.

I generally dislike Transformers that are built around a certain gimmick... at least to the extent where the gimmick overwhelmingly dominates the toy.

Leobreaker is another example of a toy that sucks due to having its gimmick (i.e.: being an accessory for Optimus Prime) overwhelm the toy and diminish its play value as a Transformer action figure. I don't like it when a gimmick is devised first, and the Transformer is designed around it like an after-thought. An example of a well-designed Transformer that does not allow its gimmick to overwhelm it is Cybertron Downshift. The toy is not really compromised by the presence of the Planet Key gimmick, which is quite discreet. I even love the fact that the Planet Key port can be hidden away. In this case, the gimmick was engineered around the toy, rather than the toy being engineered around the gimmick.

JMO.

Ironically one of my favourite G1 subgroups was the Throttlebots, which is a clear-cut case of TFs being engineered around a gimmick... but G1 was a different era and there are just different standards in that day. Ever since late G2, these standards have changed, and I just don't like seeing that sort of thing in post-G2 Transformers.

Very true and well stated despite the fact I really like both Scavenger and Leobreaker for what they are. Beside how many transformers actually have rubber rolling treads? :D

You don't like gimmicks? :tfgrin

Personally I love it when toy quality is sacrificed for a few lights and sounds! :tfpuke

(I hope you guys note my sarcasim)

Just have patience with EBay. I've seen Rampage show up from time to time on there.

if only they had given them some articulation. i mean it should have been possible to just give megatron leg articulation without much trouble.

Armada was pretty good I think. Some of the toys (e.g. Bendy Prime and Hoist) were so much better to play with/look at than some Beast Wars/RiD toys. Hoist was much more easily poseable than RiD Sideburn, because Sideburn had all that car mode shell hanging off him in places where it should have been avoided.

I like both versions, and the mold is the best of armada in my opinion.

Armada had some great toys, supercon Prime and Armada Jetfire rocked
