What? From a locomotive to a space-shuttle doesn't make sense to you?

Jetstorm.

"Afterburn!"

the thing about a jet though is unless it's a VTOL it's not all that effective at getting off the ground quickly.

Not a problem if one never actually touches the ground.

If I had to be a Transformer, I think I'd like to be Blitzwing. Atleast then, my alt modes wouldn't limit me too much. A tank is slow, but strong and a jet is quick and able to get you anywhere, so you can transform back into tank mode.

I think something like a motorcycle/helicopter triple changer would be cool....

*doesn't design*

Blitzwing usually takes off pretty fast. I know it's not accurate, but it's the way it works on the show.

And Shockwave could fly in gun mode...

Man I wish everyone could just accept the "it's the way it works on the show" without having to create huge discussions about where Optimus Prime's trailer goes that end up becoming flame wars.

Pretender Starscream. Ripped human shell with all the benefits, plus a full-size armed jet mode that can take off from a standing position. You could, for example, take a stroll around washington, get airborne and blow the crap out of the White House before you even appear on radar. Repeat the process at the Carlyle group's and Halliburton's headquarters, and instant revolution. You could alter the course of world history in an easy week.

Until you get your arse whooped by Scorponok. Coward. :P

that's energon/IDW starscream's alt mode right?

No.

VTOL = Vertical Take-Off and Landing. Planes like the Harrier or the Joint Strike Fighter. It doesn't take of, but ascends upwards, balancing on the vertical thrust of air that is being expelled from under it's carriage, and then redirects that thrust slowly horizontally.

I don't know about the comics, but Energon Starscream is based on a F-22 Raptor, which isn't a VTOL plane.
