Review - Alternators Optimus Prime

Recommended Posts

I am so so so so so so sick of the bitching about this toy. :roll x infinity I have still seen or read nothing to indicate that he is as bad as people seem to believe he is. I never thought I'd be the one to say this, but if you don't like him, then don't buy him and STFU about it.

(FWIW I won't be buying him)

except every review that has been put out by the owners of said toy :tflaugh

My thoughts exactly. No offense Madhammer, but you did read the review at the beginning of this topic right?

no of course not, I'm just talking out of my ass :roll

There are a legion of fans that automatically DISlike any Optimus Prime toy just because there are those (like myself) who are predisposed to liking any OP toy just because it is an Optimus Prime.  It is more elite, to them, to bash the OP lovers because it makes them seem different, or as having better tastes.  It's snobbery, really, pure and simple.

I am sure this figure has its faults.  From the pictures, the knees seem too high, the waist plate is plain and boring, and the shoulder armor is clunky.  However, the same could be said about many other Alternators, for example the kibble off the back of the Mustangs, the legs of the Vipers, etc.  Again, I think many are just seizing on the chance to gripe about an Alt. Prime for the simple reason that he IS a Prime.

i have an entire shelf dedicated to OP figures on which this guy will be placed.... but i still think he looks like ass

Or it could be that the Alt/BT line has been improving over the last 2 yrs and that we should be able to expect more from a figure that is just released. It is fair to say that some of the problems w/ the earlier molds should have been rectified by now and that the newer molds shouldn't have those problems.

The only problem w/ that theory is that this mold was probably older than some of the others (based on reports of a Ram mold from a yr and a half ago that were probably true) and thus this mold hasn't been improved as much as some of the newer ones, ie Skids and Prowl, etc.

It does have some to do w/ the fact that they chose Prime for this mold instead of Trailbreaker or Ironhide, but it also has to do w/ that I have already mentioned and the disappointment that has caused.

Dude, you probably shouldn't do that.  :tfgrin

I think the review was fair, because he explained what was wrong with the figure. He didn't just say "oh I just think it is lame".  He showed a list and explained why. He mentioned the flaws and good points.  I hate it when reviewers aren't honest and they sugarcoat.  Alt Prime should have been a mold above the current Alts. I will buy him also, but only to make another character & have and extra Prime head to use at another time.

Interesting.  I don't really see where he's all that bad of a figure.  As a display piece, I think he's quite sharp.  As he's an Alternator, and not a BT, I won't be getting him myself, but if I COULD get a diecast version, I would be buying him.

prowl ?

improved ?

joking I suppose ?

Ok, prime won't be the best alternator... but I think he's really better than .. prowl...

Fair enough. Although, like I admitted earlier, Prowl ended up being not so terrible once I got it in my hands. It was just that he needed to be modified a bit. But, like Prime, I still think that the wrong character was used for that mold (or vice versa, the wrong mold was used for that character).

I just want them to make all the newer ones up to the standards that Meister (and to a lesser extent, Grimlock) set. Meister is just about perfect in both modes.

I think Prowl is a great Alt and is a lot of fun to play with. It's funny how hung up people get about knees though... I guess my dreams of displaying my Alts in "squatting down to take a dump" poses are gone now :tfsad
