The toys aren't based on any of the shows. They are based on 1/24 scale models of the cars used. So Smokescreen is accurate to that scale. If Starscream was a 1/24 scale Raptor the robot mode would be huge compared to Smokes.

A truck or two would be welcome. Trailbreaker or Ironhide would be highest on my list.

You mean a pickup truck or two since Jeeps are trucks. And kick ass ones too, in my humble, Jeep-biased opinion.

Ironhide would be good as an Expedition. Its a large vehicle, but not an offroad biased one, so it'd be a perfect tie in.

And sounds like someone read my months old post with the Grimlock/Hummer idea. That one got some mixed feelings.

Grimlock as a hummer...Skyfire as a stealth bomber...starscream as something...and top on my list.....Jazz as a porshce carrera.

I'd say if there is going to be a hummer alternator make it Grimlock, or with all the new millitary vehicles make the combaticons with new pimp-ass modes like swindle could be a milltiary version hummer, i dunno just thinking with brain off...

:pfx

I agree that it would be cool to see Ironhide. But I dunno about using a Hummer or anything like that. For me, part of his appeal was that he was kind of uncool, if you know what I mean -- as opposed to Sunstreaker or Jazz, for instance. (I mean, he was a friggin' van!) His strength came from his complete devotion to the Autobot cause, and his unshakeable loyalty to Optimus Prime. I think a red Dodge Ram would work best -- Hasbro obviously already has a deal with Daimler/Chrysler -- and that would tie in nicely to his "good ol' boy" persona.
One thing to keep in mind regarding guys like Prowl, Hoist, Ratchet, Red alert, etc., is that they're police/fire/rescue vehicles. Now I could see a police car potentially selling well, but I'm not so sure about how much appeal a tow truck or a fire chief's car (or an ambulance, for that matter) would have, from a marketing perspective. Certainly Red alert would be out, especially if they were going to make him a repaint of Sideswipe. Having a Lamborghini as a fire chief's car was dumb back in G1, but we accepted it, and now we expect to see a Viper fire chief's car. Uh, that's still dumb. (What fire department has the budget to spend that much on their cars, anyway?)

Well, they do have H2s, so why not Vipers??

And really, when you get right down to it, there aren't even that many options in the first place. If you discount the fire/police/rescue vehicles, and the others that clearly aren't going to be included (Inferno, for example), and assuming that you're going to stick to well-known G1 characters, you've got:

Most likely:

Ironhide/Trailbreaker (truck-ish vehicles)

Sunstreaker (We all know it should have been that Dodge Viper Competition Coupe... :tfmad)

Wheeljack (PLEASE let it be that 2005 Mustang! :tfgrin)

Wildrider/Breakdown (hey, they already used "Dead End," right?)

Maybe:

Bumblebee/Cliffjumper (same mold -- some small sporty car like a Mini -- aw yeah...)

Swindle (repaint of Hound)

Less Likely:

Skids (I think he's lame anyway :tfpuke )

Windcharger/Brawn/Gears

Mirage/Drag Strip (MAYBE -- would an F1 be an option? And if not, what would work for them?)

Beachcomber (MAYBE, as a Hound repaint)

That's basically it. Beyond that, you're getting into characters that wouldn't really work with the Alternators concept. (For instance, Hot Rod wasn't an earth vehicle, and most other potentials are just too obscure.) Considering that the Hound, Tracks, and "Meister" molds have only been used once, and considering that we don't even know who the Mustang will be yet, that takes out five more from the above list. (Assuming no more than two versions per mold, that is.)

Of course, I could be completely wrong.  :tftongue My point is only that there aren't as many possibilities as we may think there are. So chances are, if you've got a favorite, and it's fairly popular, you're gonna see it as an Alternator. Just my two cents.

Of course, I agree with you on the part about Hot Rod and others whose alt modes were not destinctly earth-born(great way to pioneer some new alts), but, with the rest, the Alternators concept is pretty much to present us with realistic transformations and they have license with GMC(who owns enough other companies to make anybot work, literally) so it's anybody's guess, and more than likely, what Hasbro thinks will sell. Which is the reason why we could get Ironhide as a H2, it's one of the hottest vehicles out now.....vs. a vanette anyway.....

I wouldn't Mind seing Megatron as a Desert Eagle.

Ford Dedication purposes as well as alternator I would like to see Jetfire as

the Space Shuttle Columbia

or for nalstalgia they can make Megatron an M-1 Abrams
