they should just then change the size ratio if they were gonna do decepticon jet alternators, that way they'd be same size as the autobots

Meh, who said Megs and Shocky even have to be vehicles.... make 'em into giant Howitzers/cannons that the 'combaticons' can tow around ;) And to keep it reasonable, issues some jets, and put 'em in a common 1/60 scale or something to keep them closer in size to the autobots. But either way, the Alternators are only going to last as long as Hasbro is willing to seek out and pay for automotive licenses, and if everything, autobot or decepticon are just gonna be cars, then it's gonna get pretty ridiculous with the character/vehicle combinations, and might turn off alot of fans. I actually hope Ironhide isn't gonna be a RAM truck like was previously mentioned on another thread, but make him into the RAM cargo van, that way he'll still stay true to his transformation. But with the name "Iron"-hide, a gray color would be more likely than red, but it'd work for me.

You know, I have to agree with the sentiment that Megatron should be a tank. I know it's heresy to a lot of G1 fans (but who cares -- so am I), but as I've said already, the strange (and never explained) size change thing was just stupid. I think G2 Megatron is the perfect model for any potential Alternator Megatron -- consider G1 Galvatron's alt mode, which was pretty much a BFG on treads. The howitzer thing.... well maybe not. :tfgrin I think Megatron would like to be able to move himself around...

 

Bottom-line, it just needs to make sense to me scale-wise. Even if you scaled down the Decepticon jets, you wouldn't *really* be making them the same size as the Autobot Alternators -- again, unless you buy in to the "magical shrinking robots" thing. And anyway, you'd have to get to 1:64 scale before those jets started to be comparable size-wise to the Autobots.

 

And let's keep in mind that (at least originally), the Autobots weren't meant to be these badass warriors -- the Decepticons were the natural warriors, and the Autobots were the underdogs. So to me, there's really no need to have all of the robots the same size, despite what we saw in the G1 cartoon/comic.

 

Man -- I really can't help thinking of how they're going to deal with this in the live-action film. Hmm.

I agree with Madhammer, why the heck would you want to see a char formally known and loved as a Dinosaur as ANY type of vehicle? it seriously doesn't make any amount of sense to me.

 

The coolness of the alternators is how they are kind of a new take on the vehicles, with enough nostalgia in their look to make any fan of the original series love them to death.

 

You identify with them that way. Seeing a hummer transformer into something, and calling it Grimlock is as horrible as seeing Starscream as a car.

I hope the Dodge ram will be white. Then they can call it Ultra Magnus (or just Magnus) then the Alts will have a leader figure in their line, and before any one says they have a leader Masterpiece/20th Anny Optimus, he is not an alternator.
