ok i have a thery that toys that are in teams like the vanguard and duos like Gasket/Ransack and LandBullect/crumpleone will shift faster then lets say characters who went in any sort of team e.g. Vector Prime.

i say that manly cuz when i got GF gasket i then went out of my way to get Crumplezone  apon his UK release just so i could have the evil speedia racing duo. Also when it came to getting Live Convoy i also got Autovolt just to have them paired up just like on the show the same also goes for Sound Wave and NoiseMaze/Sideways

this leads me to think if you were to pair up or make sub groups people would grab the whole team just to have the set even thogh thiers no combining gimmik just a running them between the members or some sort of connection between them in the story.

now im not saying if the toys not in a team they wont sell. im just saying that if a customer had a choice between 2 good toys 1 of witch was part of a duo that he or she all ready had the other member that they would feel pushed to finish the team.

so do you guys agree or is this more of a collectors thing then a trend

(ps i used cybertron/Galaxy Force as an example. as thier have been teams befor but not in such a high number in one line befor e.g. Black Arachnia and Silver Bolt the RiD Autobot bros and of corse the Seekers)

the dinobots and the insecticons are also good examples. i do think that if toys show relation to eachother then they will be bought more (this all comes down in the end to marketing though really)

in all honesty i think it does give incintive to buy the whole team as apposed to just one part of the team.  until i preordered soundwave and saw him and noismaze on GF i realy overlooked the noisemaze toy, after preordering soundwave and now having seen them in action, i HAD to have him.  i gotta have the vangaurd team as well, before and after upgrading, i've already got red alert and excillian now i just need backpack, as far as vangaurd goes i picked up exigeyser when i got downshift and now want backgild and first gunner even more.  and yea, i pick and choose what names my tf's get :-P

another example of this kind of mentality is seen when it comes to the seekers....

I would say yes. Versus sets rock. :)

Unfortunately, all the Cybertron Vs Sets just look like previous figures repackaged in vs sets... meh.

I miss the old Beast Wars days when almost everything was available in Vs sets... I remember my first couple of BW purchases...

Optimus Primal (Ultra - solo)

Rattrap Vs Terrorsaur

Optimus Primal Vs Megatron

Cheetor Vs Waspinator

Dinobot Vs Tarantulas

Scorponok Vs Polar Claw

...etc.

The last Vs set I ever got was Mach Kick Vs Archadys. ;)

Aah, fond memories.

I think teams do help sales, and so do numbering the releases.  If the alts weren't numbered on the packages, I think there'd be fewer completists.

I'll agree on both those counts.  Mainly because I fall victim to both.  :P

Cybertron Defense Team>Vanguard Team, IMO. I just like the name better.

i think Vanguard carrys more class and sounds more elite Cybertron Defence give me the idea of a SAS style group again very elite but not as classy IMO

ps. its nice to see peeps thinking along the same lines as me (makes me think im not crazy)

Vanguard was also the name of Action Master Sideswipe's partner... but I digress. :P

I dont know if they sell faster but I will admit, when I get one, I want to finish the set. I wanted CD Scattorshot and Red, so that gave me the desire to buy Hotshot. Who is a cool fig, if you dont compare him to his Car self.
