Jetfire is based on several VF-1's. It gets it's rounded nose from the "VF-1 Super Ostrich" on top of what you mentioned.

Actually, Robotech started as a US release of Macross, with edits made to remove objectionable material. They then followed the series up by taking two other "Super Dimention" series - Southern Cross and Mospeada - and edited them all to hell to make them fit with the originally unrelated Macross storyline, with everything from total rewrites of the storylines to stock footage from the macross series edited into the later shows.

As far as the missiles go, the original Macross toy that jetfire was based off of has firing missiles. The mechanism was removed from the US version but I've heard rumors that a Japanese version released by Takara under the Transformers label had the firing mechanism and missiles intact (though I've also heard there never was an official japanese issue of jetfire, which would contradict this)

to imput moreto this topic. there is also some legal rangling going on between HG and BW (Big West btw) as to who actually owns the copyright to the valkyires here in america and in japan as well. the court case is or might have been rulled on b/c

HG is also producing a "Macross : DYRL" special series of valks as shown at this years toy fair and there's no way in hell Yamato or BW for that matter would allow this unless there is somethin finally hammered out between the two companies so you might expect some more toys Finally under the "Macross" banner from HG and the total disownment of Robotech

That legal mess comes from HG being a bunch of sneaky sacks of cr*p. When they first got the deal to do Macross, they altered it enough to allow them to copyright their own version as their own property. That's why they called it Robotech instead of Macross and nearly everything/everyone in it got re-named. When Big West sought to release Macross on their own in the US, HG came along and said that since they own the copyrights to their own version, they exclusively own the whole series.

The matter has never gotten a verdict by a US court. Usually it's a small importer like Toycom who tries to bring Macross stuff to the US, and they're easily bankrupted into giving up through the huge legal expenses from lenghty trials that HG makes sure last forever. This completely contradicts the Japanese court findings that BW never sold exclusive and complete ownership of the Macross series to anyone.

is that then how HG can do a "DYRL" line of valks then?

Because it hasn't gone to trial. Most importers are small and can't afford to fight HG in a long legal battle.

No offend to Toynami, but Yamato 1/48 is the true MP. I'm sure the majority of fans will have no problem accepting this statement.

Myself included. I wouldn't call Yamato a true MP it's beyond that, it's the King of Valks PERIOD! :tfevil :tflaugh

Well sorta. HG canceled the Ostrich and Elint Seeker. On the MW fourms there's an ongiong discussion about the DYRL SP's.

I would personally love to see a cartoon version of Jetfire - heck, if for nothing else, it would be way cheaper than shelling out for a MIB original....

Hopefully, that can be made possible
