Was There Ever An Explanation...

Recommended Posts

Was there ever an explanation on anyone's part as to why G2 has such wonky colors most of the time? I mean, take a look at poor Starscream and Bruticus, to say nothing of Superion. Even unreleased molds like the Protectobots and the Stunticons look like they belonged more in the candy aisle or in someone's cereal bowl. Was there ever a plausible reason why?

Because it was in style for some reason. Even GI Joes and several other lines had those day-glo colors at the time.

because kids of the 1980's were growing-up and the toys were trying to appear hip, cool, and with-it in order to maintain their intrests. the same thing is happening again now that the children of the 1990's are growing-up.

gotta admit some of those colors were really funky like G2 bruticus.

The original idea with Generation Two was to make it a reissue line. Hasbro had started to catch on to the fact that there was a lingering TF fanbase out there, and there might be a demand for some of the classic (i.e. "pre-movie" to Hasbro's mind, not having forgotten the post-TF:TM fan backlash) characters. But they decided to recolor the toys to distinguish them from the G1 originals, and also to give them a "fresh" quality (again, to Hasbro's mind) so that younger kids would hopefully become interested as well.

Really, the particular color choices etc. weren't really so out of the ordinary for toys from that era, though now of course they look pretty awful. Give it ten years and it'll be cool again though.

it was just that bright colors like that were popular at that time. i remember a time when i was a kid when almost everything around me was neon. *shudder*. clothes, toys anything. same reason some of those guys came with voice boxes, twas just the times changing, they felt the need to update them appropriately

I know why, cause in G1 there was really only one chick. So they all went GAY wit it!

Ok, try this.... take almost any G2 figure, and place them under a black light, most of them will glow really funky, either through their labels or the plastic colors.

I haven't tried that.

Anyway, I love my G2 Bruticus. :boogie

I remember having a collection of about 20 different neon slap bracelets. :redface
