Explanation : too much crack and bad taste.

(that said, G2 Thunderclash is the coolest G2 TF ever)

Ok, try this.... take almost any G2 figure, and place them under a black light, most of them will glow really funky, either through their labels or the plastic colors.

A blacklight makes lots of different TFs fun, even in G1 with guys like Piranacon obviously but there's also suprising effects from "normal" colors.

In normal light BW Silverbolt and Metals Silverbolt look slightly different, but very similar and certainly distinct from Botcon Windrazor. However in blacklight, Metals Silverbolt and Botcon Windrazor look to be twins with BW Silverbolt being the odd bot out.

Most translucent plastics also look great, very "energized".

I thought blacklights were just a useful visual aid for stoners.

Do you really need an explantion on how megatron went from silver and black to purplish and light green?

Nah, probably not. I think it was just a change in the times. As others have said, there was a lot more neon and bright colors back then. It was just popular for some reason.

IMO some of the garish color schemes worked... and some didn't

Well, you know how many tiger striped jets we see out there. :D

That's not exactly what I meant... I don't think "robots in disguise" was ever a driving design philosophy for Hasbro during G2. I just meant, does the obnoxiousness look cool for what it is? I think the G2 Combaticons, both Megatrons, Laser Prime, the Laser Rods, and the Cyberjets look cool. And the Aerialbots, sort of. The rest were :guh

or maybe those were just the only cool G2 figures, period :redface
