1. I take it you've bought toys from GZ

2. I take it you've used an air freshener in hopes of removing said smell and FAIL'D miserably

Hey, I had the same exact problem.  I bought a custom from TFM (great quality) and it reaked of cigarettes.  I took some rubbing alcohol and cotton balls and gently went over the figure a few times over in car mode and then in robot mode.  After a while the smell was gone and no harm was done to the paint or figure.  If your worried about the alcohol content, just dilute it with some water (cool).  Hope it helps like it worked for me. :thumb

I'd be careful with this technique as the factory-applied paint on Transformers is usually dissolved by rubbing alcohol.

What if you cover the toy with like wrapping paper or something like that?

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose?

Well, the smell would somehow get stuck on the paper or fly out and stuff. :redface

Heh.

I'd probably go with wiping the whole thing down with soapy Q-tips (being careful of the stickers if it's a G1 fig), then rinsing and drying well to avoid rust.

i received some armada seekers that reaked... i used lysol (sp?)

just spray it on a paper towel and wipe. get most areas, but it's not necessary to get everywhere.

i have to do this to an alt jazz and silverstreak i snagged off of ebay
