G1 Universe vs. New Universe

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I'm reading through the "G1 Classic line" thread over in the "News and Rumors" section, and I'm seeing a lot of complaints that too much attention is given to G1, and G1 homages, and not enough attention is going toward developing new, unrelated Transformers characters/concepts.

Some people are calling for an end to Prime, and end to Megatron, and end to Transformers as we know it, and to roll in new, untested stuff.

Now, I want some clarification without delving to much deeper into that thread.

Do people really want an entirely new universe? No Prime, No Megs, No Matrix, No Cybertron, etc...

Or do they want to see different aspects of the established Universe? (Note that I'm not including A/E/C  because they're just different spins on G1)

Maybe you'd like to see the planet of Cybertron, War Within style, BEFORE Prime and Megs were running the show, or what it was like AFTER Beast Machines.

Or even what was going on away from Earth DURING the Beast Wars.

The reason I ask, is that my draw to Transformers is not to just any transforming robots, but is instead to the characters and universe that I've been with since day 1.

Like many of you, I don't need to see anymore exploits of G1 Prime and company, but I also have no use for a universe that would be COMPLETELY unrelated.

So I ask you, ideally, how much of what makes up Transformers© do you want to see in the next iteration?

I think that Star Trek TNG proved that you can take a series to a different time in the same universe and still have it succeed...

Prime is the "Kirk" of TFs... I wouldn't mind seeing a "Picard" style leader for a change. :thumb

And I don't include A/E/C because they suck. :tflaugh

I started a thread a few days ago talking about this.

Personally I want to see a new batch of characters but in the same general universe.  i want new leaders, a new villian, and I want to see some more of hte world they all live in.

The last few series jsut feel to much like they have been rehashing the same story with a new paintjob over and over.

i would like to see better representaions of prime and megs. in bw, we actually get to see them progress as leaders and characters. a/e/c just has them, i dunno... there... fulfilling their roles as leaders and nothing more. (a/e/c sucks btw). perhaps if there was better writing and interesting stories (as opposed to the typical anime "gotta catch them all" syndrome) then we wouldnt be so tired of seeing said characters over and over again. give them some depth. everything since bm has been so one dimensional.

the solution isnt to remove prime megs unicron cybertron ect, but to change their representation.

what id like to see is a cartoon version of the dw comics. not nessesarily the same stories and such, but the tone and depth that we were given. the way megs was portrayed was very interesting. it drew new light to what i remembered g1 megs as (the typical bad guy that never won) so that he was actually more than a bumbler. i dug that. AND NOT DONE IN CGI. christ has that ever been overdone.

Maybe the story line behind what happened in Cybertron for 4 million years while Prime & Megs were on Earth.  Have Shockwave as the Decepticon Leader, and whomever else for the Autobot Leader.

also something touched on in the dw series. the war continued until there was no power left then the entire planet shut down. after he reactivates and reactivates everyone else, show the struggle between shockwave and followers and the renegades (hotrod and co). that was cool.

imo, the dw series was basically g1 explained by people as Outback as us, wanting to fill the holes of the silly kids show from 20 years ago. and filling it with some damn interesting stuff. all whilst adding to and expanding the mythos.

Wait...wasn't that called Transformers Victory? lol

If I'd wanted something totally unrelasted, I'd buy in to some other transforming robot line. (Which I do.) As far as TF's go I think the concept can be carried beyond Prime and Megs.

Something like that, yeah.

We have yet to see a truly serious attempt at Prime and MEgs G1 universe (similar to BW/BM) when that happens, then i'll be ready to move on.
