Brawn didn't die on the shuttle.

 

1) He got hit in the friggin' shoulder!

 

2) We don't see him doing an "Oh, I'm dead, so all the color has to drain from my corpse!" move like his buddies.

 

3) The Decepticons would have needed an Autobot (and one alot smaller than them) alive on the shuttle to give them access codes and to tell the control tower, "Nope! No Decepticons on THIS shuttle! Why do you ask?"

 

4) He bailed out with the 'Cons when the shuttle exploded.

Brawn didn't die. he did the sensible thing and stayed down on the ground. a shot in the shoulder like that and he thought "Stuff this i'm not taking one of those to the face!"

 

ironhide on the other hand had to be the hero and stupidly get himself killed by not playing dead and grabbing megatron in a ship full of powered up decepticons.

That is true, hotrod did kill any survivers, but brawn being so badass, dragged himself out of the crash, with his bad arm, learned hotrod killed prime, got repaired and more bad@$$, and then joined to Con side to kill rodimus for causing all the world's problems...

In Dreamwave's More Than Meets The Eye profile books it states that Megatron can fire either a standard plasma shot or in rare cases an extremely energy sapping 'kills you in one shot' anti matter payload. :schin

back in the Great War on cybertron, the autobots and decepticons got so frigging powerful they did too much damage to surroundings, and had limiters stuck in them.

 

and megatron turned his off to kick ass in the shuttle

 

and Prime turned his off

 

as you can tell, it's a really lame ass idea, but it explains it better than "attack that drains Megatron of nearly all of his energy right before the most important assault he will ever make"
