Murphy: Execs Believe Old Voices Tie To Old Times

Recommended Posts

I just think people have a hangup about what they call "celebrity" voices. It seems sometimes that "celebrity" gets defined as "someone I don't want in the part".

in all honesty, it doesn't matter who they get to do the acting since the movie will probably be little more than a special FX bonanza with plenty of bells and whistles to draw the public's attention. not that i got a problem with going that route since it's usually the movies with big special FX that become marginally succesful.

Again.... what has Transformers (meaning G1) *ever* been if not a heavy-on-the-action, light-on-the-intellect "effects-driven" show? We're acting like a big dumb action movie would somehow violate the spirit of the Transformers...??? come on

i guess people just want a realistic protrayal of the decepticons, ie, a militiant race of warriors that are not afraid to harm or outright kill any humans who get in their way. really, that's what bugs me about the modern tf cartoons: the cons inability to harm humans.

a realistic portrayal of giant transforming space robots?

...okay I know what you mean

But I don't see what that has to do with anything.

Hehe, you mean "squishy"?

In a post several months back, Don Murphy described how Megatron would look at the humans in this movie and that is what he said, Megs saw humans as "squishy". I personally love that quote b/c I think that it perfectly describes how Megatron's character should be.

Oh and the issue of the voices. If they can find the right celeb voices to do it then great, so long as it is done very well, but I personally think that it would be a mistake to use anyone but Cullen and Welker b/c anyone even remotely familiar w/ the franchise (and by that I mean non-Transfans obviously) would relate to them and be excited to hear their voices coming from Prime and Megs. If they got anyone else to do it, most people would notice and think it is weird.

edit: pressed the wrong button.

voice actors are completely discounted by Hollywood.

Another reason why Hollywood sucks.

All I have to say is:  As long as the 'celebrities' they choose don't sound like stiffs, I think we can accept having them do the voice over.

I think it's a bit glib to just say that Hollywood sucks... I mean, look at the Lord of the Rings movies. Sure the money was put up by a Hollywood studio, but the movies were really New Zealand projects. And they were some of the highest-grossing movies of all time. There's good and bad in Hollywood just like anything else.

Personally I'm not worried about who they choose for the voices, any more than I'm worried about having Michael Bay as the director to begin with (since he's got the final call on casting decisions anyway)...

Hollywood has put out a lot of Blot recently (last 5 years) but has also had some very successful movies as well. But you're, I probably shouldn't say Hollywood sucks, but you have to wonder what it has become.

It's become obvious more and more than we'll get celebrities for the voice work.  As long as they don't sound like stiffs I won't care.  But the movie has to be good too.

Kaye and Chalk are good when they aren't forced to do anime crap where they're forced into matching lip movements.

That's their fault, not "anime crap"'s fault. The Japanese VAs had to do it, and they done it right.

And if you're generalizing all anime as crap... well, that's just ignorant.
