Kaye and Chalk are good when they aren't forced to do anime crap where they're forced into matching lip movements.

F'ing A!!! I love, LOVE Kaye and Chalk in BW and BM and I really actually prefer Kaye as Megs over Welker, but you have to use the nostalgia angle for something like this. I bet that people that go see this movie that aren't necessarily fans, but are familiar w/ the brand and especially the 80s cartoon (just like I am familiar w/ X-Men and Spidey, but not crazy about them), would still be expecting to hear those familiar voices.

It would be a mistake for Dreamwave and Bay to choose someone else b/c Welker and Cullen are too antiquated. I bet that their voices get the same response from the entire audience, not just Transfans.

[Kaye and Chalk would definitely be my second choice, but we are even less likely to get them. I am sure the studio wants to go w/ some "big names" to draw in an audience, which is total BS.]

But really, the voices aren't the important part right now anyway.  The script should be the focus first.  After that they can go after whoever they want for the voices.  Cullen & Welker, Kaye & Chalk, Cheech & Chong ... whoever.

Oh, on that point I 100% agree. W/o a great script it makes absolutely no difference who does the voices. That should be the main focus.

How many people really want Cullen and Welker? I prefer Gary Chalk as Prime more than Cullen also.

I'd rather Cullen and Welker. Big fan of both, especially Welker.

...like they did in 1986?

Seriously people, let's think about this for a second. Some of you weren't around in 1986 or weren't old enough to realize it, but casting Judd Nelson as the main character in TF:TM in the 80's was the equivalent of casting Ashton Kutcher or Freddy Prinze Jr. or someone like that in the movie. Would any of you want that?

BTW I love Kaye and Chalk, but that's because I love BW/BM and the characters they played. They really don't have anything to do with G1. And I'll bet that if they're hesitant about Cullen and Welker, then they're probably not even going to consider any other professional voice actors at all. In every single TF voice actor interview I've ever read, there's always a mention about how voice actors are completely discounted by Hollywood. They wouldn't even show up on the radar. If Cullen and Welker are out, then everyone's out IMO.

I completely agree w/ your last statement, if Cullen and Welker are out, then we are going to get stuck w/ some big-name actor simply for their drawing power and not a talented VA (which is what I said in my post).

As far as Judd Nelson in TF:TM, the first time I saw it and every time since then, I haven't liked that choice, just like I don't like Spock for Galvatron. I like the characters, but I would have preferred a good VA to a big-name any day. I would also absolutely be pissed if someone like Ashton Kutcher got a role in the movie, it wouldn't be right.

I agree w/ another post that said the only animated movies that do a good job w/ big name actors are Pixar-type movies, and that is only when they essentially write the character to suit that actor (like Will Smith in Shark Tale, or Ellen in Finding Nemo, those characters were perfect for those actors). W/ these characters, there are no big name actors that come to mind that would suit them.

I don't know about that.  I'd kinda like to hear Jack Nicholson's take on Megatron (or Galvatron might be an even better choice).

I just think people have a hangup about what they call "celebrity" voices. It seems sometimes that "celebrity" gets defined as "someone I don't want in the part". As I've said before, there's usually a reason why well-known actors are well-known. And casting directors really do spend time thinking about who would be right for a part and what they would bring to it etc.... of course the ability of that person to generate ticket sales is a factor, but when you're talking about voice-only parts in a live-action movie, the equation becomes a bit more complex IMO.

i gotta say...i dont really care.  i personally prefer Kaye and Chalk personally

Me too.  But the guy that did RiD prime would be good too.
