When VW says 'No bots with guns!' that's when the HasTak marketing shills need to say 'No problem! We'll have his engine become a comm array, with Prime's picture on the screen. He can talk to MP Prime that way.'

Bumblebee (or Bumblepest as I like to call it) was to me what Wheelie was to a lot of TFans.

Yes, I forgot that anyone is forced to love Bumblebee, and theres a legion of TF fans that dont cares about him. Sorry! Anyway, This pool have been changing my mind about the question a lot. Theres too many cars that could be new Alt/BT no matter what character be choose.

See, if the problem is that VW doesn't want a violent bot with a gun, I don't see any problem here-- the G1 figure didn't come with a gun and BB rarely shot one in the show anyway-- most of the time he was just babysitting spike or doing reconnaissance.

I would gladly welcome a VW BB without a gun, especially if he was super-posable. Hound's gun wasn't an integral part of the design and he still had an "engine" that you could see... he's a fine alt if you ask me!

Exactly.

There's a line of thinking that says that VW placing their car in a war realted piece of media (regardless of how, gun or no, good guy or bad) or similar is insensitive and offensive to both other nations the German's waged war on and the Jews in particular, given their past.

Whether that came from a politically correct higher up or from actual complaints, I dunno (although I can say I have heard some Jewish people make this complaint long before the policy), but until some sense comes back into the equation, and people stop blaming a car company for the actions of a bunch of people who are for the most part dead now, that's how it will remain.

well aside the fact that IMO bumblebee is and MUST stay a VW beetle, i would like to point out that it would be even better if it was based on the old VW beetle. we have had plenty of modern and sporty cars for ALTS/BTS, so why not have this little gem of a toy being based on the vintage beetle?

(besides, why VW doesn't want to give the license for the beetle?)

'cause VW is German and the Germans, as you may or may not know, have made some big war-related poo-poo in the previous century. VW is very aware of this and isn't very keen guns 'n stuff. Bumblebee is a bot with a gun, placed in an intergalactic war and thusly carries a gun. Guns are bad.
