True.

But in that light can Unicron be seen as evil? Or even the Decepticons?

I mean we see cockroaches as ugly, filthy creatures that have to be exterminated. The same would apply to the Decepticons who view humans in the same light. Does that make them evil?

I really liked the comic explanation. I also liked Beast Machines a lot because the Maximals were the underdogs. I think it is cool if the good guys really have to fight to win.

I did pre-order Primus but I think it is a bit weird seeing him as Cybertron. Seems a bit small then.  :tftongue

i think thats my main reason for wanting primus. to have a cybertron for my kick ass unicron to munch on. that is until hes defeated by space jewelery.

I personally couldn't care less about Primus's role in GF/Cybertron just as I couldn't care less who or what Unicron is. All modern TF mythology aside it's all about the toys and how cool they are. True the Armadaverse Unicron pales in comparison to Cybertron's Primus but that's been the driving force of the GF/Cybertron lines. To give fans young and old something new and exciting to buy. I really like the Unicron toy but it can only be expected Primus would be detter designed just as GF/Cybertron Prime exceeds all  that is Armada/Energon.

I think complaining about Primus and Unicron's roles is altogether pointless. GF/Cybertron may be G1 inspired but it is not G1 just as both Armada and Energon wasn't. It's not even in the same continuity for that matter. :roll

Primus is a creator and an explorer.  Unicron is a corruptor and a destroyer.  Both seek order, but one does so selflessly, while the other does so selfishly.

It's very akin to the Christian theology of God vs Devil - the Devil, jealous of God's ability to create things out of nothingness, seeks only to change those things that God has created, to mess them up in some way out of his resentment that he himself didn't make them first.

Unicron was first invented by Western (predominately Christian) culture back in the 80's, so it's safe to assume he follows that pattern - he wants to destroy Primus's universe, and even changes his creations into more evil forms (Galvatron, Scourge, Cyclonus, Sweeps) in order to achieve this end.

It's interesting to note that in Eastern series, Unicron is seen more as a "balancing" force to Primus, and when that balance is disturbed you get the Grand Black Hole or other such phenomena.

Eh. I like the idea of Primus and Unicron as gods representing good and evil. I feel that Primus's good was necessary to balance out Unicron's evil.

I'm sick to death of yin-yang good and evil balances. Not everything has to be completely equal.

I realize the irony in what I'm about to say, but that's one of the things I liked about Beast Machines; the good guys were the underdogs for thr first time since.... ever?

I just think they completely dropped the ball with Unicron post-TF:TM. They could have spent the third season on this big mystery like "where did Unicron come from" and "how did the Matrix kill him" and all that.... it could have been awesome. But all we got was a ghey space monkey. :grr

But all things considered, I have to say that I like Furman's explanation as much as anyone else's. At least it's coherent.

I have to agree with that. I like the idea of the bad guys being some massive, powerful and organized war machine while the good guys are a smaller, rag tag band of misfits and outlaws. Maybe its because I like the idea of nonconformists kicking the crap out of "the man", or maybe I just like seeing them have to fight their ass off to get anywhere.

And for the record, the ghey space monkey sucked ass. Although the idea of all the animal-TFs having some kind of alliance was  a great idea that was never capitalized on....

I think a good retcon for the Space Monkey would be that Unicron's disembodied astral form convenced Primacron to build a body for him, wich off course got bigger the more he ate.

Very well put.
You know, I tend to think of Unicron and Primus as amoral, but if I were to assign who is "good" and who is "evil", I would say Unicron is good and Primus is evil. Unicron tries to bring order to the universe via the destruction of all things capable of warfare (i.e. life) while Primus sits there and do nothing while the Cybertronians waged war for millions of years.

I disagree.  If you look at "good" as being "loving", then Primus is the good one since he lets his creations choose how they wish to live.  Unicron takes away all choices not just bad ones.

I haven't seen much of Cybertron yet (just a few eps on Hasbro's site), but tthe point discussed here seems a lot like a G-1 vs Cybertron point.

In the G1 comics Primus made the Matrix to destroy Unicron. He could of course have made himself a robot mode as well, but that would've resulted in the same kind of battle they fought before and would be very destructive to the universe. And so the need for the very powerful matrix was needed.

But has the matrix the same potential in Cybertron as in G1? Is it even the same kind of thing? In G1 comics the matrix held most of the power of Primus, does it do the same thing in the Cybertron story line? If not, then it could be necessary for Primus/Cybertron to transform into a robot mode to fight Unicron (just like Prime had to merge with Omega and grow a lot in Energon).

But what do I care :P

I'm not interested in the Cybertron story line and I just like the way the toy looks. I think it makes a more impressive sight to have Unicron and Primus fighting on the shelf, then Unicron with a WST Prime who holds a little matrix. (But that's just silly me...)

Sounds silly... shouldn't it be WST Hot Rod? :D
