I have always copied movies since its pretty easy. I simply go to my local video store and watch the film i rent and copy it if i like it. Then I scan both sides of the cover and and I also have that label kit to put on the disks themselves. I made backup copies of just about every movie that I own, whih are few in number cause I hate paying 20 bucks for a movie when I can pay 4 dollars to rent it and a buck for a blank disk..wait I have to do this: arrrrrrrrgh! All I need is the pirate hat and ill fit the bill

I'll make backup copies of DVDs I care about, and then watch the backups or loan them to a friend to watch if they want to borrow it, that way I don't damage the originals.

I think the one good thing about the pirated version of the big screen movies is that you can see if the movie is worth spending money on to see int he theater or when it comes on DVD. I borrowed a copy of War of the Worlds from a  friend and I was glad I didn't part with any cash since the movie was lame. The quality was good, the movie just stunk.

Oh, and who wants to make a virus for mac, when only like twelve people on the planet use them and they are all uptight graphic designers still spouting off that macs are better...my opinion, of course...

That is an advantage indeed. One could read reviews but those are hardly conclusive.

Bought The Grudge but it was not even remotely scary. Heck I even fell asleep shortly during the movie.  :tflaugh  Of course having played Doom 3 on Xbox, nothing scares me.

The movie industry is doing well but I do not buy movies because I want to make them rich I buy them because I like them and feel they are worth owning.

DVD's will be replaced by a new standard but unlike video tape I doubt there will be any real reason to replace them. I did replace a lot of my tapes with DVD due to the much higer quality.

I doubt the DVD quality could be improved upon all that much (if any).

Very interesting issue...

For one, in principle you should buy the originals whenever possible. However I don't blame anyone who happens to copy a DVD because they think it's only good for a one time watch. Really the only difference in that is the DVD-R company is getting the money rather than Blockbuster (assuming you're downloading off the net.)

Most movies IMHO aren't worth the $20 bucks that the companies charge. A DVD blank costs 10cents to make and to print a cover and case it costs less than a Starbucks Frappacino. Seriously, can you blame people for copying? Why pay $20 bucks to Sony for 1 DVD, when you can pay $20 for a spindle of DVD's that go to TDK, RIDATA....and oh wait just a second... SONY! That's right they're in the DVD-R business too. So really if you buy a pack of their blanks and copy their movies, they're still getting money (not as much) but really, does Sony really need more money?

Another thing i have a problem with, is quality control. I paid $60 for each box set of TF G1 seasons 1-4. Rhino's quality control was really bad for the way they produced the discs. (ie errors, disc formating of episodes, bad links for the extras) So if someone said to me... do you think they're worth copying or buying... i'd say copy them because you're not getting a professional dvd in the first place.

Another example of wasted money is the Ghost in the Shell SAC series. Not that the show is bad (i love it) but the first few volumes had major problems with the audio tracks and stuff. And then Bandai wanted YOU to foot the bill to ship it to get it fixed. What kind of crap is that? If you just waited for a week... one pirate group would simply just re-author it at NO CHARGE and release it (illegally of course) but it was produced properly.

I probably could go on forever about this topic, but really the bottom line is, is if the MPAA and RIAA want to try and get piracy to stop.

1) Lower the prices

2) Get rid of these stupid region codes (who the hell are you to tell me if i can watch a disc from another country or not?)

3) Get better quality control within the companies

4) Stop acting like you're not making any money

Thank you for listening! :)

I doubt the DVD quality could be improved upon all that much (if any).

Will it be HD DVD will make everyone purchase those DVD's over again...

or will it be BLURAY DVD that will get everyone to purchase those DVD's.

Another example of the next generation format that none of the companies can agree on.
