This is not a Transformers related topic but I was just curious to see what people thought of this topic.

I myself am against the copying of DVD's. Very simply put, I feel that if it is worth owing and having in your collection then it is worth buying. In The Netherlands DVD's are put on clearance reasonably fast.

Just because I paid full price for Fantastic Four does not mean everyone has to. Just wait 6 months and it is half off.  :tftongue  Recently visited the rental shop and bought 3 DVD's from the "get rid of bins". Two (that I was actually looking for) were in reasonably good condition, one did not even have scratches on it), the third had a bit more wear. But I only paid 3 Euro a piece for them.  :tflaugh

And a lot of DVD's (especially some of the series) come in really cool box sets which look so darn good.

I have a family member who has a lot of copied DVD's. I have not seen it, but he says Kill Bill is a great movie. Why did you not buy it then? I loved The Punisher and have seen it 3 times since I bought it. Heck, watched Shrek 2 3 or 4 times in the first week.  :tflaugh ]

In any case I look at his collection and one can clearly see what is fake as they have those printed DVD covers which look extremely ugly if you ask me.

Of course it is cheaper but that does not really warrant me getting more movies simply because they are cheap.

I buy the series/movies I really like (or if they are on sale) and that is it. And since I really like them, I feel they are worth buying. Copying is stealing to me.

I do have a few copied discs as the originals have a crack in them. But I keep those so it is perfectly legal.  :tftongue

(Am almost at my 500th DVD. Tomorrrow I hope to reach that landmark.  :clap  I added the free DVD's that came with the new Cybertron figures and the extra's that come with certain games (Halo 2, MGS 2) to that total.)

What do you think?

In befor move

i dont buy copyed DVDs cuz often the quality sucks and i like the look of the lagit copys more and if you have a shelf full of copys you just look like a cheap skate

I don't like copied DVDs (or CDs) cos the quality is crap & you don't get the extras or the cool packaging. The last one I got was "Team America - World Police" which I had already payed to watch in the cinema and I bought the legit DVD as soon as it hit the shelves. I don't think my purchase as harmed the industry in the slightest and I think piracy only harms crap films (& albums) as if they're good I'll buy the originals anyway.

True though I often wait for stuff to go on sale.

And some DVD's are just really cheap. I bought a Mad Jack The Pirate and Life With Louie DVD for 3 Euro each. Of course they are dubbed in Dutch but I really liked those shows so even in Dutch they are cool to watch.

And hey, one takes what one can get.  :tftongue

The quality is often poor indeed. I had a copied DVD of Fantastic Four while waiting for the DVD to be releaded and it was poor in quality.

I could not say I bought the movie as soon as it was out.  :tftongue  It was out on the 2nd but the 2-disc version that I wanted was not out until the 6th. Scored it immediately.  :tflaugh

I have no issue with buying copied films that are just out at the cinema, but if I liked it, I will buy it on DVD, for many reasons.

However, having seen the same Movies on sale in countries like the US for half the price of the UK, and also having bought several "definitive" versions of various films, only to find a new more definitive version announced 3 months later, and yet another super definitve version another 3 months later, I completely understand people not being bothered handing over their cash.

i have to agree with that ive been thinking of getting evangelion on DVD but i go into any store and thier are like 4 types i asume platnum edition is the best seeing as its all shiny and Blot but the fact thier are so many is just a pain

I don't buy DVD's.  Period.  It's a rip-off industry.  I've heard that DVD's deteriorate after 6 or 7 uses as well (maybe not true)

I pay a cinema a flat monthly fee and can see as many movies as I want.

I'm not condoning 'piracy'  but if the prices weren't so exhoribitant it wouldn't be as much of a problem.

They're victims of their own greed.

Not me but my dad. He got too into his Ebay thing one day and got the complete Aeon Flux TV series on bootleg DVDs. Really crappy too. Cheap tape to disk dump.

I am a huge movie collector I have around 800+ movies and boxsets im my list and about half are burned i buy cases print covers and get the movies long before they retail and not those crappy cams or telesyncs. Burning movies is fine as long as your not a moron and use crappy 1 or 2 click programs like dvdcopy and dvdshrink.
