Christmas day 1984:

I open a present and it's G1 Megatron. I take it out of the box and begin to transform him. SNAP! The hinge connecting the gun barrel to the main body breaks. Parents had such a hard time finding him in the first place that they refuse to return him. Twenty-one years later, the memory still haunts me.

Longrack update.

Today I wanted to take a closer look at my Skyquake so I reached to the shelf where I keep him. However, while doing so I accidentally knocked over Longrack and as he toppled towards the floor I screamed because I knew his horns would not survive.

One actually did but the other broke off again and I have yet to find it. There is so much stuff on the floor that this may take hours.

Perhaps I am just too stupid to own Transformers.  :tftongue

Need stronger glasses people.  :tftongue

Look all over my room and finally decide to give up and do something else. I walk outside my room (did the same to place Skyquake in my bedroom (as I still want to check him out) and I find the missing horn.

D'oh! But I guess this is one of the most common things to happen.

Hope you can get it fixed.

Strangely enough.  I did fix it! :clap

Congrats.  :thumb

I really like the big Starscream, he is very cool.

Have not refixed my Longrack yet, will do so soon.

G1 Sludge as a kid - favourite TF ever.  Always transformed him.

Until the day his legs broke.  :tfsad  The little connector at the top of his leg.

Fortunately Mum fixed it for me.

But then he broke again.

And so the cycle repeated until Mum convinced me that nothing was going to fix it.  I think we then threw it away.  :(

Sadly my TM Megatron broke at the waste while being transformed. I really liked this version of makes so it really hurt when he broke. Now I need money for a new one.

A broken TF is what actually got me back into collecting...

*flashback sequence* ... and there I am, one day happily playing with Metroplex, having had him for a good year or so.  And then...

*snap*

Completely shears at the waist.  A 7 year old is slightly devastated.

The way it was constructed, it can't simply be glued unless you never want to rotate the waist again.  And that wasn't good.

Fast forward to 2002 - I discovered Ebay, and found a junker Metroplex with intact waist joint.  Bought him, swapped the waist joints over... good as new.  Hurray!  Oooh, TFs on Ebay I thought.  Let's find some more I wanted!  And then came the reissues, Binaltech.. the rest is history ;-)

One interesting thing is that Metroplex went through a slight remold between the rubber and later plastic wheeled versions - an extra and reinforcing strip was added in the waist interior to give the whole thing more resistance to torque - my Metroplex used to have the old waist, now he has the new, stronger waist - clearly Hasbro (or Takara, whoever) realised the problem and fixed it!
