Bain's World - Review of Cybertron Thus Far

Recommended Posts

Artists versus Suits. It's an age old battle.

Designer: No. No. No. The curve on that Ferrari doesn't match my concept drawing. It's all wrong.

Accountant: Pressing the steel into that shape would cost X number of dollars. I'm sorry. We can't.

I like that your channeling blame where it should be focused more on. Marketing needs to do more homework for sure. Regarding the Binaltech book translation, I wonder if hasbro have ever followed up on their intended market of 5+ with the reality of who's actually buying their Alternators? Bump up the age bracket. Cater to those people.

Cybertron, to me, is like a shotgun. We'll cover as many bases as possible. There's something for everyone. With that approach, you're also not going to please everyone. The beast and futuristic TFs don't interest me as much. But I appreciate that it's there for those that do.

Armada Sideways is simply some Hasbro or Takara higher up's pet project. Maybe it's some marketing dude that always calls for its release. I dunno. It's the only way I can make some sense out of the insanity. The other Armada remolds are quite good though. A good way to get product out the door w/o major designing from scratch. A Cybertron Sideswipe from Armada Wheeljack would be a logical step.

They saw fit to release Vector Prime - again. The exact same toy. I'm sticking with my pet project conspiracy. :redface

Jumbo Starscream is laziness pure and simple. Props to those who like him, but it's still a lazy effort. And yes toys are still made for kids. The mainline should always be made for kids. Those of us that refuse to grow up (myself included) just have to accept that. :)

after first getting the THS version and then the regular C version, I immediately disliked the C version: colors were wrong and I felt that the size was just a tad to big to be really beautiful. I simply overal don't like big TF's.

I also got mini-Prime 1st and was slightly disappointed with his big brother. Mainly it was the flat plastic versus the THS's fantastic paint job. I like big TFs when the character warrants it. The funny thing is if I bought the big prime 1st I probably would have appreciated it more.

Also,

Bain's World. Party time. Excellent. *air guitar*

:lol Well, I do agree with the said statements. I mostly own the Cybertron Scouts myself with a few exceptions of Crumplezone, VP and VP vs Starscream style Starscream. I have to say the big bots seem less imaginative. For instance, I bought Crumps and Ransack together.. I didn't think I'd find Ransack to be so appealing, while big ol Crumpy sort of less than steller. Even though I got the crummy C Vector Prime, it still doesn't stop him from being a bit bricky. I just about only like him because he is the only one to come with minicon ports as of yet. I still have yet to figure out why release a new set of minicons when no one in the line except one can really powerlink with them. :wtf The one thing I think that saves GF/C from total disaster is decent ammount of sculpting and extra details that seemed to be totally absent on the lines that came before it. It may be a brick, but it's a damn pretty brick.

Really could of done without the A remolds.. all of em. definetly will pass these guys up.

Of course, the thing I learned with my dabbling with Armada.. it seems TFs have started aiming for a younger croud. Can say the same for Energon and Cybertron as well. Hence I think they decided to dumb down transformations/articulation to make it easier for the gradeschoolers to change them back and forth. I have to admit, it seemed like 10 minutes of transforming was the norm for awhile. Be it good, be it bad.. who's to say.

Anyway, my 2 cents.

I happen to like the whole line in general... yes there are the exception to that.... Crumplezone and Ransack... and even backstop too... I wished that the Vector Prime figure wasn't so lazyly painted like the Cybertron version and the don't get me started on the limp sword thing... the Supreme Starscream issue.... be happy we(the US) get the starscream upgrade(God mode), though I would have preferred the other version first and then give us Super Starscream, watch GF for the Super Starscream, its in the show.... Though I have the Starscream(armada paint scheme) version...

and the whole cyberkey issue and the not paint certain keys- Primes key missing the gold and Ransacks key missing the silver...

I just hope that when Primus shows up, that Hasbro and or Takara make different keys for that figure and not generize the whole cyberkey transformation thing... as in making primus come with four non usable keys but to Primus himself!

An I'm starting to worry about what Unicron is going to look like! :wtf  I heard rumors of it going to be the Fallen from WWI.

anyway one thought- the whole Soundwave/Sideways and Planet X issue and using Starscream- my speculation is Starscream is from Planet X and he is a sleeper agent in the Decepticon Army!

Ransacks key missing the silver...

I actually think that the missing silver on Ransack's key kinda works when it's attached in alt mode, makes it look like part of the bike and not something added on.
