Hey, how come nobody made a Hotrod with Matrix?

Recommended Posts

Movie Rodimus was great. Sure, he got Prime killed

Was any one happy in "Dark Awakening", when zombie Prime blasted HotRod?

I never felt the Hot Rod angst that so many others apparently felt. I always liked Rodimus Prime a lot, even post-TF:TM. And I also felt no reason to mourn Optimus' passing. Sure, I was really excited when I saw the first TV promo for "The Return of Optimus Prime", but I wasn't one of those kids who cried in the movie theater when Optimus got killed in TF:TM. I accepted the changes that Season 3 brought, and moved on.

Anyway, people always complain about Hot Rod being responsible for Prime's death, but they never mention that he's also the guy responsible for destroying Unicron and getting rid of Galvatron. You'd think that that would have counted for something... but maybe Hot Rod has just become the screen personification of Hasbro's marketing department for some people.

P.S. Takara Mega SCF Hot Rodimus comes with a Matrix.

I had mixed emotions when Prime died in the Movie. Hearing about it I thought cool! Finally, a cartoon is being realistic and the good guy doesn't have to when. But when I saw it almost 2 years later, I kinda felt sad. Maybe because of how brutal it was after Megs grabbed Hotrod. I actually wanted to cheer when Prime did his now famous, "NEVER!!"

As far as Rodimus Prime was concerned, as a kid I hated that he had no confidence and was constantly mourning Optimus. Plus like I said, I wanted to see Hotrod not Rodimus. The movie previews made Hotrod look so cool. I missed the movie and was left seeing the crappily animated season 3.  I thought it was silly even after seeing the movie that Magnus wasn't the leader.

On a side note I remember seeing Rodimus on the Toy commercial thinking, "Ew! Hotrod looks better than Rodimus?! WTF!" I couldn't believe that the big new Autobot leader had only shoulder articulation G1 windcharger at least had knee articulation. With the way they went out of thier way to make his legs curved and more humanoid, you'd think he'd have hip and knee joints. Laaaaazy! I don't give a crap if he was made in the 80's, that was lazy.

I TOTALLY agree about Rodimus Prime's toy. There was no reason at all why they couldn't have given him some leg articulation (at least), because they don't do anything in Winnebago mode.

Reflecting back on all this, I realize that perhaps I liked Rodimus Prime b/c I identified with his confusion, frustration, and (honestly) moodiness. He wasn't quite the born leader that Optimus was, and I liked that. I guess that's the difference between me and some of the younger G1 fans here -- I'd already hit puberty by the time I started watching the show. :tflaugh

Yeah although I was a bit, let's say, "Chipper" for a little kid I was far from puberty When the show first came out. Maybe 1st grade

:pfx 110%

Rodimus just doesn't get the backing he so rightfully desearves. Way too much emphasis on Prime these days. We did get a cool homage of Rodimus in Energon but aside from a really cool toy I didn't bother nor care about the series enough to see if he was any good. From what I did see it looked like he and Prime argued/fought for the most part.

Reguarding the toy. :schin I never had one until this past Saturday. Got one through endcapping. Though the toy isn't nearly up to G1 metal Optimus Prime standards, it's still cool to have around. Personally I really like the Winibego alt mode, I just wish they would've done a lot more with it. For an immobile brick with limited arm articulation and no other articulation to speak of he still looks pretty cool standing over his trailer mounted dual cannon. They also provided him with a very cool, very large riffle. Lastly rubber wheels, and chrome stacks pwn. :clap

On topic. If Rodimus was ever issued a Matrix in transformable toy form I'd want it to be in the form of a Masterpiece figue.  :clap Probably will never happen, but until that day ever does arrive I'm fine with Rodimus's G1 incarnation. Without a Matrix. :thumb

Hot Rod / Rodimus dosen't deserve the Matrix.

Neither did Magnus.  Prime was already dead. Who else was there?

There's a (fairly) popular theory that Magnus WAS intended by Hasbro to replace Prime but that they changed their minds.....

In UK print ads, Magnus and Galvatron were referred to as 'New Leaders' no mention of Rodimus.

On top of that, Rodimus wasn't released in Europe until '87.  .

Plus in 1987, Galvatron was still marked 'City Commander' and Rodimus 'Autobot Protector' on their tech specs.

Whatever Hasbo's intentions were, they didn't seem to be very focused about the way in

which they persued them......

I've never heard that theory before. Magnus and Galvatron were called "City Commanders" on their boxes, and they did appear in the same commercial together, but the way I figured it, Hasbro probably didn't want to stick a toy on the shelves designated as "Autobot Leader" before the kids had even seen the movie (we *did* get Rodimus in '86 in the States). The movie had been in development for a long time prior to 1986; it's highly unlikely that they would have completely reworked the story after already having created the boxes for the toys (which can be changed a lot easier than the toys themselves). JMO

I also have the feeling that Rodimus was smaller so that he could be released at a cheaper price point.  That way kids could get the "Autobot leader" figure more readily.

I guess......... but how much bigger could you really have made a "Matrix'D Hot Rod"? I remember Galvatron being pretty dang big. Just like Ultra Magnus....... hmm

well, toy-wise the lineup was intended to be Ultra Magnus vs. Galvatron, with Rodimus Prime & Wreck-Gar vs. Scourge & Cyclonus.  I do agree the Rodimus Prime toy could have been executed much better, but with the current powers that be I doubt we'll ever see a quality G1 Rodimus Prime fig ever made.  That being said, the Matrix that was first introduced with New Years Convoy and repro'd endlessly does fit in Hot Rod's chest cavity, and does look pretty nice in Crystal Hot Rod :thumb DSCF0690.jpg And if you get the painted one's off Ebay from Treasure-Planet, they also come with chains that can be adjusted with a simple pair of pliers, so I have 'em hanging off my Rodimus Prime's as well.
