The day I go Mint In Sealed Prison is the day I buy a high end printer and make custom boxes. Then I'll just print off all the toys from the internet and shove that glossy in the box. The end result is the same.

I honestly just like the way they look in the boxes...especially the new cybertron boxes...they are like perfect litte display cases. They are easier, IMO to display in the box as well and u dont loose important parts....I do open and play, then when i get bored with one, it goes back in the box and I get out another...It's a cycle =) The BT's on the otherhand...have never been opened...That's what the Alt's are for. I am just too afraid to open them.

i keep them misb cuz....

1. I can view remy's galleries and others, dont hav to pose it myself.. and dont have to deal with dusting..

2. my lil cousin opens his can play with his

3. appreciation value :clap

I dunno about the rest of you, but I really would like to do the old buy two open one when I have the cash.

I used to do that but I realised I wouldn't ever get the ones I needed. So its one at a time for me. The only time I will get extras is if they are in a lot, or I find them cheap at a garage sale or the flea market, or they are G1 Insecticons.

so are you all saying that you plan on selling your collections down the road? i sure as hell will never sell any of my tfs. the only ones i have misb are my tru reissues. mainly because i already have them still from when i was a kid. but the reissues of the chars i didnt have as a kid i opened of coarse. and along with what some of the others already stated, i agree that todays toys will only be worth retail price in 30 years due to collecters. even the rare stuff i have is opened. sure sometimes i regret opened the rare ones, but it passes. once i get onto collecting the g1s hard, ill still open them, even if i buy them misb. im not much into second hand.

ok.. let's get to the REAL question...

who her.. has plastic vinyl slip covers on their couch... that stick to the back of their legs during the summer.. just to keep their couch clean??? :-p

Anything you hold with the intention of its value increasing is an investment.  Like any investment, it's about supply and demand.  I also like TFs personally as toys for reliving my own childhood.  In this case, they happen to be the same thing; I tend to keep stuff MISB if I think there may be more demand and less supply to meet it in the future.  I tend to open ones I just want to open regardless of what I paid so long as I was willing to pay that much for something I was going to open.  This CAN work because you can use your knowledge of the subject.  Like investment in any collectibles, one must be intimately familiar with not just the collectible but its market.  This can also FAIL (as it more often does) because it's more often the case that people can't keep the two separate for they are.  The simple reality is that in the investment world, there are more losers than winners; the collectibles market is an even worse subset.

It's not an issue of whether toys and investments can be the same thing (like the comic book mentality most young 'collectors' went through).  They certainly can.  It's more that:

1) The majority of people aren't educated or practiced at being good investors anyway.

2) People aren't good at mentally and emotionally separating what is a "toy" from what is an "investment", which is what's really important, and not whether they happen to be the same thing.  And this further aggravates their not being good investors.

I'll just say that if you're buying a toy, treat it and respect it as such: play with it, enjoy it, put it on display (wow, this is sounding bad..), freeze it in glass, whatever, however.  If you're moving money into an investment, treat it and respect it as such: take care of it and you might NOT lose on it; abuse it and it definitely will (and if you're really unfortunate, you won't learn anything valuable from the lesson either).

Edit: And yes, I plan to eventually sell certain MISB items (unless I really feel I can personally afford to just keep it around for ego's sake).  Otherwise, I'd just open them and play around with 'em.  Of course, seeing how well I took care of my original G1 toys all of which I opened...  :tflaugh
