Who were the leaders of the Autobots and Decepticons before Megs and OP? Who did Megatron have to kill to rise to the top? I like imagining him plotting and scheming behind the scenes like some Sith Lord, counting the seconds until he can betray his master. Who passed the reins of leadership to Prime? Alpha Trion doesn't seem the "leader" type to me.

Vector Prime was the leader. He said it so it is the word of Primus.

in one continuity sentinel prime was before optimus...but to my knowledge megs was always the original leader he was created as a warbot and caused an uprising

In the Five Faces of Darkness, we know that there were leaders before Prime and Megatron, but they aren't named. Alpha Trion is described as more of a guardian of the Matrix than a bearer of it.

in most universe's megatron was the 1st decepticon then he just converted others to his way. RiD megs was a crime lord and cryotek was his master but it never came up on the show

 

prime again it depends in the g1 cartoon it seems A3 was befor prime but g1 comic wise thier was a sentinal prime. for RiD, armada, BW it seems he was just promoted to comander with no mention of who was befor him

According to what I've heard, Megatron created the Decepticons, so he has always been their leader. As for the Autobots, there seems to be mixed feelings. Sentinel Prime was the leader before Optimus, but according to what line you're following, either Sentinel handed the Matrix to Prime himself, or Prime received the Matrix from Alpha Trion, which makes Alpha Trion the leader inbetween Sentinel and Optimus.

In the cartoon, remember when Rodimus went into the Matrix, they showed a bunch of different guys who you would assume were previous leaders of the Autobots. One of them was Alpha Trion.

In the Marvel comic universe, the leader of the Autobots before Prime was Sentinal Prime. At least, it is assumed that he was the Prime shown in a flashback in Marvel UK's Legacy of Unicron. Before him came several leaders, including (I think) Prime Nova and Prima.

 

In one of the text stories, the leader of Cybertron was called The Overlord and was an ancient mech who died after Megatron refushed to refuel him.

 

Megatron was simply a gladiator who created the Decepticons to try and stem what he saw as the decay of the Autobot states. Before him there were no Decepticons.

 

The Decepticons effectively came into being when two city states, Vos and Tarn, blew each other to bits, thus creating hundreds of dispossessed mechs who flocked to Megatron's side.

 

Of course, the leaders of said city states were Starscream and Shockwave, but they still called themselves Autobots at that point.

Right, which would support that he was keeper of the Matrix inbetween the times of Sentinel and Optimus. Also, Alpha was kind of the leader of the ragtag group of losers the Autobots had become before war with the Decepticons forced them to toughen up.

 

However, he clearly was not a prime, just a holder of the Matrix until a new leader could be found, which he ended up having to build.

i think alpha trion was before sentinel because in one of the transformer novels it refers to sentinel as optimus's mentor and role model so i would assume A-3 relenquished command to sentinel prime this is in the dreamwave continuity this novel was after issue 6
