Writers Ask Opinions for Top Ten Decepticons

Recommended Posts

Megatron

Soundwave (with minions as i believe they would only play a minor role)

Starscream

Thundercracker

Skywarp

Blitzwing

Astrotrain

Runamuck

Runabout

Reflector (not sure if this counts as it is technically 3 separate robots)

*I think shockwave and the coneheads should remain on cybertron, and should be seen only momentarily, or only near the begginning before the ark and nemesis crash on earth (i.e. shockwave communicating with megatron on earth via hologram)

I care if I allow myself to..... but I've had to put up a barrier between my hopes/expectations and this movie so I don't go insane.

I've been trying not to even read anything related to the movie but I cant help myself. I dont want to know too much and ruin my experience. It's bad enough when you know all about characters before you see a movie. Like when Wolverine got shot in the head on X2, I'm like *Whispers* He's not dead the bullet hit his metal skull. He's gonna heal.

I just thought about how much that would friggin' hurt....

Here's the thing about the Decepticons (pre-TF:TM): there weren't that many of them. Especially if you take out the combiners and triple changers. What does that leave you with, the Insecticons? And how many people picked them?

Hmm...

*Thinks*

Megatron

Soundwave

Starscream (The Big Three)

Skywarp

Thundercracker (The warriors)

Ravage (The spy, preferably with the comic personality)

Rumble (The 'Punk')

Laserbeak (Interogator)

Runamuck

Runabout (Because the Autobots can't always monoplise the roads)

Which gives two double acts, three big hitters and three 'sidekicks'

And, in the Cybertron shots, I'd have Shockwave, the coneheads, Reflector and a few thousand Quake and Seeker variants (for the obligatory massive army shots).

I'm really surprised at how many people put Runamuck and Runabout on their lists. Were they bigger characters in the comics?

Much. At least for one or two issues. They were one of the better characterised double acts in G1 comics. Sort of half homicidal maniacs, half artists.

See US Marvel issue 23.  :thumb

Plus, they have the advantage of being practically the only non-combiner Decepticon cars.

They were the only Decepticon characters  after the 84-line other than Shockwave to really be given a personallity until Furman took over.

Okay, that makes a lot more sense then. I can only remember ever seeing one of them in the cartoon, and then only once.

Skids'd

You know, it's nice to know that you actually have some hopes/expectations deep down. Sometimes (read: always) you come off as a huge "anti-transformers transformers fan." :P

I wouldn't ever have signed up here if I didn't care. There's no denying the influence G1 had on me when I was younger. Just because I critique the shows etc. from an adult perspective doesn't mean that I was never a fan, or that I'm not now.

Plus, I still have mixed feelings about the whole idea of a live-action TF movie in the first place. One of the problems I have with the newer TF series is that they use a lot of the same character likenesses and names and even the same basic premise, but it's just not "The Transformers". It doesn't feel the same and it isn't the same. This movie won't be any different. It'll be establishing a new continuity with new priorities etc., and the fact of the matter is that it's just not going to be an extension of the TF show I fell in love with 20 years ago. So it's hard for me to get too jazzed about it, because I know the things *I* would like to see -- things that would bring me back to the excitement of G1 -- but I'm pretty sure that every G1 fan had a unique reason for liking it, and I'm not foolish enough to expect that this film is going to cater to what I, or any other TF fan, wants to see.

So I wait and see.
