A power grab is most likely the reason as to why Soundwave did nothing to stop Starscream from tossing Megatron out.  He did say, "Soundwave superior, Constructicons inferior," as a response as to who was most fit to lead the Decepticons. 

 

Yes, little fuel is needed for conventional space travel as we primitive humans know it, but the Transformers are not primitive humans.  Astrotrain was probably going to be travelling at high speed through space.  He was not going to be using little puffs from maneuvering jets to get them across the galaxy. 

 

Now, there probably wasn't any extra junk that Astrotrain was carrying.  He must have meant the Decepticons that have been trashed.  It was, "Survival of the fittest." 

 

As for Galvatron killing Starscream, I'll say this.  He only killed Starscream because it worked for the story.  That's the most general and realsitic approach to this.  It also, however, makes sense.  Starscream was a jerk and leaving Megatron to his death was the last straw, so Galvatron vaporized him.

remember also that Starscream had stepped up as the new leader. It is entirely possible that Galvatron simply killed him as an example to any who would challenge his leadership. Also...since we could assume that SS was successful in the little battle that began in Astrotrain...a new con appearing and suddenly blasting the tough guy into nothing so easy would certainly make that others respect him.

he "killed" Starscream becuase Starscream tossed him off the shuttle, kicked him, and originally suggested the idea of tossing people off in the firts place. that simple.

well, he did insinuate sometihng along those lines... he said "We need ot jetison some weight." while that could mean just throwing away weapons, it's uncertain. in either case, it's really too vague to mean anything other than "Toss some shit off." >.>

I'm with I.S.T. on this one. There's nothing at all in the story to indicate any collusion between Starscream and Astrotrain. His comment was meant to be taken at face value. It's not like there were all these subtle layers of meaning in TF:TM, after all -- this was the same movie that had Hot Rod explain his belief that the matrix could destroy Unicron by saying, "I've just got this feeling." :roll And I can pretty much guarantee that the writers weren't anticipating that people would be parsing the movie 20 years after the fact.

i believe that...

 

1. starscream did order astrotrain to take a certain route and astrotrain had no idea what SS was actually up to, like the stupid con he was just following orders.

 

2. I think that everyone hated megatron by now (after failing to kill prime, after all as far as they saw optimus was just injured not dead), and so wanted him gone (yes even soundwave), and having SS as a leader ain't so bad, he has a wicked tongue but no real bite and therefore could be replaced easily

 

3. starscream propely just wait for the other cons (during the astrotrain fight) to wear themselves down then beatdown the survivors.

 

4. i would have killed starscream just like gavlatron did.

Suppose Unicron never picked up Megs. Starscream would take power, mess up somehow (we all know he would eventually .... he's got frickin' Cobra Commander's voice!!!) - - -

Starscream would never have messed up! How dare you say that! He would have been a great leader! I just wished they never had killed him when the series frist began, just leave him on dersert astorid then he would have lived and every series he been in he would have lived and something different would have happened.

 

TFC Galvation looks like he got punched in the face too much and turned pruple, as my brother says. I think they just sild the color bar like you do in WMP when you want a different color for the screen, thats what they did to him. The pink eyes just don't do it for me. Megatrons reg. form was much better, it suited him.

 

Though the word old man is used alot in the TFC series i tell ya. I didn't know so many transformers were so old! :/

 

Though my age guess for Starscream is he is a few years older then Hotshot, he would be in his late 20's for Hotshot acts like a 18 year old.
