Well, when megatron gets to Unicron...unicron says he Summoned him there. I always assumed since Unicron was so powerful he some how affected astrotrains ability to fly, or manipulated him totally. It seems like it was Unicrons doing to me.

I always took it as he drug megatron through space after he was tossed off of Astrotrain.

I'd pay real money to see the entire Decepticon army and Trypticon cram into Astrotrain. Although it would exceed the weight capacity, I wonder if he'd run out of space. :schin

maybe Astrotrain is related to Soundwave.

these what-if theories are could go on fo days. unicron summoned megatron because dum dum dum...Uni has a tractor beam. He simply pulled them in like fish. and then made his speech about summoning. I would have liked to know how things would have changed if megs did make it back to cybertron. Maybe he would have been built into his G2 form. Sort of like destiny, damned if u do, damned if u dont. hmmm

we all know the movie could have been fleshed out better with some extra scenes here and there this is just my idea of how it should have gone.

 

"Oh, how it pains me to do this. " He says to Megatron as he sneered in a taunting manner as Megatron regained consciousness as he lay in his arms helpless. Systems back on line. Optics coming back online. What happen, I’m in Starscream’s arms. He is smiling. That smile isn’t a good sign.His smile and that look. I am afraid no one is coming to my rescue. I am still too weak to save my self. a smug grin tugging at one corner of his mouth as he moved closer to the edge.  Routing power to vocals Megatron, energon bleeding from cracks in his faceplate and various wounds Prime had inflicted before his own death, shakily raised his head and looked through bleary optics at his traitorous lieutenant.  With all the moments he could have easily killed Starscream flashing through his head, Megatron realized Optimus was right--his only chance was to beg for mercy, though he knew his lieutenant all too well to think it would work. Megatron lifts his head and rasps out, "Wait, ... I still function..." he rasped, but it was too late. The sounds of Megatron's voice reaches Soundwave's audio receptors and he moves to aid his commander, "No, you cannot... You will not do this, Starscream," he said warningly. Again, the Air Commander smiled. "Why, Soundwave, how are Overkill and Slugfest? I heard they were cornered by that Dinobot, Snarl." Soundwave's eyes registered panic, though only he would have been able to tell. "Starscream ....His monotone voice almost lets on a sudden feeling of fear" "It would be unfortunate if I reminded this motley bunch of their grievous injuriesâ€? said Starscream  Soundwave sagged. He loved Megatron as a brother, but his children came first"  He watched Soundwave as he moved aside. His dimming optics faded as he watched him do it. Soundwave could have sworn he saw him mouth out "You traitor" in the darkness. he shook his head. A look of sincerity in his optics, he would've mouthed back an apology himself if his faceplate had not covered his mouth. "Wanna bet?" he laughed, Holding Megatron out into Astrotrain's wake, Starscream loosened his grip.  Starscream drops Megatron to the emptiness of space with the others. leaving his former leader to float free and be left behind as the cargo bay door slammed shut with a note of finality  as he fell into the deep cold vacuum of space.  Starscreaaaaaammmmm!!!"

Astrotrain wasn't one of the central characters.

The reason Galvatron DIDN'T slag Astrotrain:

 

Astrotrain was their only transport at the moment, and he was in alt mode. Megatron's primary vendetta was against Starscream, who actually threw him into the void.

 

As Galvatron, megatron rationalized that by making an example of starscream, it would serve to remove what had been a problematic thorn from his side, as well as to serve as an object lesson to the decepticons. He probably figured it was punishment enough to astrotrain and the others seeing one of their ranks completely annihilated right in front of them. In other words; "Astrotrain, I realize you were not capable of helping me at that point, but if you EVER allow this to happen again, THIS is what I will do to YOU."

 

Besides that, Megatron/movie galvatron knows that he needs all the forces he can get, and if he punished everyone directly who had even a glancing involvement in his expulsion fro the ship, he would lose a considerable amount of seasoned warriors that he had worked wih on previous missions.

ok ok ok...we can all say our opinions of people's motivations or abilities or whatever, but the simple fact remains...

 

The idea of Astrotrain having a hand in Megatron's destruction is certainly interesting and doesn't really ITSELF have any holes...

He DID needlessly tell them to jettison weight (which would have been of course planned so Starscream would have an excuse to do what he did) and he did crown SS after a fight which we saw no real conclusion to (we can perhaps assume therefore that Astrotrain had something to do with SS coming into that position). It is a very interesting idea. So just accept it.

You would think that Decps like Soundwave, Megatron, and the insecticons could just transform and be stored in the overhead luggage compartments....
