when the Cons were retreating from Autobot City aboard Astrotrain, the only reason why Starscream opted to discard the wounded into space is because Astrotrain said "You better dump some weight or else i'll never make it back to Cybertron". now here's the kicker: there is no gravity or air resistence in space. Astrotrain wouldn't have had any difficulty making it back to Cybertron no matter how many Cons he was carrying. clearly, Astrotrain was conspiring with Starscream to get rid of Megatron and i bet Starscream was going to make Astrotrain the new decepticon aircommander as a reward for his help.

 

yes, i know that the movie writers simply lacked a proper understanding of astrophysics but it's fun to come up with hairbrained theories for bad writing/animation

Astrotrain wasn't one of the central characters.

What Astrotrain said was quite open to interpretation...  they could have ejected weapons, supplies, or 'cons other than Megatron.

 

Starscream was the one who ejected Megatron in the end.  Galvatron slagged

Starscream probably because the others were more valuable to him alive.

 

Although the fact that Soundwave loaded Megatron onto Astrotrain and then didn't even try to stop Starscream makes no sense at all.

i rest my case!

Perhaps Astrotrain meant "jetison some weight, or I won't be able to accelerate to a velocity capable of getting us to Cybertron in time to salvage some of you beat up soldiers."

It's more about a critical mass. Sure, he could have given a simple boost and calculate the direction... and reach cybertron in several millions years and by then everyonne would have run off of energy. Sure it's not the first time it would happen, but I am not sure they wouldhave survived their wound, this time.

 

But to use hyperspace, and go directly to cybetron, there was definitively to much mass to cary.

Some times its just too much science crap to even think about. Even if Space has no gravity Astrotrain still needs to output the significant amount of energy necessary for trans-space flight. Thus he'll have to compensate weight for propulsion. Decepticons are devious, scheming creatures that'd sell out their own team for a chance to make a getaway.

 

As far as Galvatron's hitlist goes, Screamer's position as second in command made it one of those things they can't stop. If he's gonna toss Megs, he's gonna toss megs. For cryin out loud he shot at the Constructicons during his coronation!

 

Astrotrain gained his place in Galvatron's army in the first episode of Season 3 when he was the first one to give up his energy to bring back Galvatron.

Just wondering, aren't the other cons also a jet?? So why did they need to get in Astrotrain?? It was just the writers answer to why only megatron and co got reformatted by Unicron and not the whole decepticon army
