Not bad, not bad at all. Congrats, BTW.

Great work!  The background looks fine, but if you want to tone it down, just blur the backgroung slighty in Photoshop.  It'll make all the difference in the world. 

 

And of course, Happy Birthday!

I think it's neat, and I really like the high contrast shading style.
