i wish i could get the Headmasters DVD. it only bites that i dont live in the UK.  I would like to see at least one episode of the Headmasters series other than the Rebirth which ive seen dozens of times.

A few things i liked in Headmasters would be Sixshot, battle beast cameo, and lots of use of metroplex and trypticon and wheelie treating daniel like crap

Episodes 1-10 are fan subbed on TV-Nihon. You can at least get a taste before you invest in a Region Free DVD player (or whatever is needed to play them), a PAL/NTSC converter, and the DVDs.

Hey, it's G1 It can't be worng, right?

Yeah , right

(this is a clear example of how Optimus Prime and the Autobots want to control the galaxy under the pretext of "protecting it from the Decepticons.")

No it's not. :roll you seem to be forgetting the context of the series. it was a show meant for little kids. how often do you see absolute good and evil in a cartoon meant for five year olds? a lot. go watch kids cartoons some time. and no, I don't mean the DCU and TF cartoons, but stuff like Pokemon(And let's face it, Pokemon is oriented at the same target audience that Generation 1 was. it's just not as well done.), Winx Club, etc.

The problem is Takara aimed for an even younger audience  than the US!

The genral US audience was between the ages of 5 to 15 and so the storylines although simple, often contained a relitive complexity, In Japan it was treated about the same as 'Gobots, challenge of the machine men', meaning a target audience of 3 to 9yo therefore less relevence in the storytelling.

luckely, 'MASTEFORCE' and 'VICTORY' beefed up the story and action, unfortunately they got it into their heads that 10 year olds are safe to have in a war zone while giant robots are stomping around :redface

Like COME ON!, Spike must have been at least 18/19 to be working on an oil rig  :wtf

overall the masterforce/victory series would have been better to start with, don't let HEADMASTERS turn you into a HEADCASE, just prey they release the others! :thumb

It wasn't all bad.  I remember seeing them back in 1999.  I really really hated daniel voice.  Though the animation was not that great it beat out season 3 from the US G1.

Animationwise it beats out season 3 but in all other areas it fails.

What I have also noticed is that even now the Japanese think power is all important seeing how the Headmasters are treated and that Maximus has that sword.

The following series will probably see less characterization in the Transformers, more humans and the pursuit of power becoming more and more important. Which makes me hesitant to buy those.

news is the follow up to headmasters will be the masterforce set as i heard get ready to be confused by more silly names like wally from the headmasters. and BILLY

Well I'm only 2 eps into it and I think it is far superior to Season 4 of G1.  the battler between Soundwave and Blaster alone was awseome.  but you know it would be cool if Hasbro did something for the old school fans and got Wally Burr to round up as many of the origina; voice actors and re dub this thing, and also get some of the writers to edit it in a way to fall in line with the show.  I know it would never happen, but it wouldn't cost em too much, and every G1 fan would buy it so I think they would stand to make a profit.  Just call it the Lost Season of Transformers.

Anyway, I hated how in Season 4, they basically gave Rodimus his pink slip and he was just fullfilling a contractial obligation to be there.  He saved them all from Unicron, but took a back seat to Spike and Daniel. Lame.  In headmasters he is still top dog, and still by far the best fighter.
