my original point is that it would be wrong for the "heroic" autobots to commit genocide against the decepticons since the autobots are suppose to be better than that. also, since both factions are of the same overall tf race, it would be like America exterminating every last German back in WW2, rather than giving the germans the chance to surrender with dignity.

And LMH as much as you Starscream about it being a Childrens Cartoon - i would like to point out that at least Half of the fandom comes form teh Marvel comics - in terms of referenc point and that was written with a slightly more mature reader in mind...

I think you're over-stating the percentage of G1 comic fans.  I'd guess it's closer to 10-15%.

Well my frame of reference are the Die Hards who post on INTERNET forums regularly - ie-the people engaged in this discussion.... not the casual chowder head walking through TRU....

 

So i think more than 15% is accurate...

if someone is attacking you and will not stop attacking until you are dead, your only choice is to fight back and try to kill them instead. However, I do have to say that I don't recall the Autobots ever talking about literally annihilating the Decepticons. I *do* remember Optimus using the word "pacified", though.

As I recall, they all got blasted into space by a bolt of plasma energy.

In the cartoon it was cut and dry. Autobots were the good guys and the Decepticons were evil. The comics were for the most part the same way, but it was possible to relate to the Cons more. G2 is when everything became more grey. The G2 Cons were evil, but the G1 Cons were not so much, and the Autobots bacame war hungry. BW/Bm continued the grey period, but with the new anime shows it is now cut and dry again.
