I just think all this "oh the Autobots weren't really noble/heroic" is just projected bullsh*t. Come on. They're obviously written as heroic characters. It's a kids' toy property. If you want to be all subversive about stuff, choose something a bit more mature to test your theories out on.

In the cartoon it was cut and dry. Autobots were the good guys and the Decepticons were evil. The comics were for the most part the same way, but it was possible to relate to the Cons more. G2 is when everything became more grey. The G2 Cons were evil, but the G1 Cons were not so much, and the Autobots bacame war hungry. BW/Bm continued the grey period, but with the new anime shows it is now cut and dry again.

In the cartoon it was cut and dry. Autobots were the good guys and the Decepticons were evil. The comics were for the most part the same way, but it was possible to relate to the Cons more. G2 is when everything became more grey. The G2 Cons were evil, but the G1 Cons were not so much, and the Autobots bacame war hungry. I think mine's closer, during battle it was about an average of 2 per panel.

I need to read the G2 comics sometime. Granted I never got into the toyline but I heard the comics were cool.

 

The sad thing is A/E/C really do go back to black and white but I can point out two examples from Armada (I know, cringe, cringe, blah), of all series, that showed some sort of inspiration on the part of the writers --

 

Starscream was torn between the factions and actually had some decency inside of him, he had a conscience unlike the power-mad Starscream we're so used to -- but then he got dumbed down as a lackey in Energon

 

Sideways was a true mystery, he sided with the Autobots despite having classic 'Con colors/look/voice to him...then he was a Decepticon, but I personally thought it was cool how he played both sides and was really the scion of Unicron

 

And I think Scavenger turning out to be a good guy was kinda cool too

 

 

Much as I loathe Armada I give it credit for those characters, but nothing else

I can explain him being a lacky in Superlink atleast. Alpha Q revived him to be a slave effectively. He had no memory of his previous life so it was easy for Megatron to make him submissive.
