I left since about 1989 and only got back in 2003... Basically it was the re-releases and new versions of G1 toys that got me back.

Can't really say that I have ever really lost intrest in them.

Well here's my perspective:

I consider Transformers to be THE definitive toy/cartoon of my childhood during the '80s. That said, I lost interest after the 6th grade and therefore I can say that I have been--and still am--only into anything G1 (specifically, pre-TF:TM related). G2, IMO, cheapened the Transformers line considerably. When BW first made its debut on TV, I only watched a few episodes 'cause I thought the concept bastardized the Transformers (rehashing Optimus "Prime" and Megatron made for a weak link to the original series). With RID, I thought everything about that series was random: from the unimaginative widespread re-use of original TFs' names to the seemingly random incorporation Decepticons with off-the-wall alt forms vs the true-to-show (read: Robots In Disguise) vehicle-based Autobots. Armada the TV series turned me off from the very first episode with its 3rd-rate animation and I found the toy designs to be uninspired. Energon seems to be an improvement over Armada with its "homages" to the original line, however, Megatron (Galvatron) is the only one I feel the designers hit out of the ballpark. In summary, none of the subsequent generations can match the purity and inspire the same excitement in me as the original Optimus and company.

Of course, this opinion is from someone who's out of the loop with the world of Transformers nowadays--I'm sure all of you who are in the know could refute my arguments and educate me on why the post-G1 lines deserve respect. I just recently got the nostalgia itch and have been lurking around for Transformer-related stuff on the Internet, which I have a blast reading up on. While I find the 20th Anniversary Prime and the Alternators to be unbelievably awesome, my collecting days have long passed.

Nevertheless, Transformers will always rule.

how was that show anyway. never watched it. did catch BW once and it did bother me to think of the transformers as "animals"

Beast wars was what brought me back.. I have my reasons, but I'll probably start a post about 'origins of collectors' or somethin screwy.. I'll tell my story then.

I liked Beastwars, mostly because there was a ton of refferances to the G1 cartoon.. Megs and Prime got screen time in full 3d.. but it wasn't just that. I think it was mostly the chaarcters.. they seemed so much more polished than anything I've seen in Transformers period. The animal thing bothered me, but I got used to it.

I will probably be the first to say I did NOT like RID at all.. Koji blows, I'm sorry. No Transformer should be at the whim of one little kid.. Armada was pushing it. It just reminded me of Digimon FAR too much. They style, the voice acting.. it all sucked. :tdown

That and I was spoiled on BW's beatiful 3d renderings.. =P

Garg.. and the spelling gods are not with me today..

huked on fonix werkd for mee!!

I've always liked transformers since when I was a kid. Stop caring around 6th grade. One day in college a couple of years ago, I was bored so I went to walmart and saw the RID Prime. Was bored and nastagic of prime so I got it. Been hooked ever since. I loved the RID line. I currently have all of them plus some doubles or triples of rare ones like Bruticus, the dog, not the combiner.

I always kept one toe in the water, even thru my teen years. Hell, I love cars, robots are cool, how can you say no? E-Strongarm got my interest a little, but only when I saw pics of Alt Hound did I really get hooked again. Ive never been satisfied with a TF Jeep before, but that thing looks like a warrior-god in both modes.

i got back in with RID (the toys NOT the show). i picked op RID optimus. two weeks later i got RID magnus, i combined them into omega prime. that officially brought me back to transformers(much to my wifes chargrin) beast wars did absolutly nothin for me.

  • 3 weeks later...

It was Beast wars that brought me back. Though I never really got out of TFormers it was BW that started me collecting again.
