Walmart Alternator Clarification

Recommended Posts

Interesting - and it begs the Question of WHY Hasbro continues to make BLATANTLY bad marketing decisions in the selling of their toys.

It almost sounds like stores such as Wallmart and Target are sitting down with Hasbro execs and saying - "This is how to sell a toy...."

Why should it be Wallmart's responsibility to Educate Hasbro on how to pack a case assortment. Or Which molds to discontinue *cough*yellow jeep*cough and which ones to manufacture more of *cough*blue Vette*cough*

Someone explain to me again Why Hasbro Doesnt want to sell their toys?

Dumb sh*t.

Yeah. Like I posted somewhere else These figs arent like cheap Cybertron basics. They're $20 and 1 new figure comes out every 3-4 months. Since this line is going on till an indefinite time frame, being able to order just the figs you want would be great.

I dont blame Walmart.  On a somewhat related note about Walmart and TF sales, I just went to a Walmart that still has like 20 of it's original May 2004 shipment of Energon Megatrons. This store does not believe in marking their toys down. After over a year, they have finally marked these Megs down to $30. That's high considering I got Galvatron from target for $26.

I agree.  The walmarts around me are still saturated with Energon figs, and Silverstreaks.  There is a store about 10 minutes from my house that has LITERALLY (I counted) 5 Energon Megs, 5 Energon OP, and at least 3 of every figure from the last wave out.  I could honestly go there and buy at least 3 of each of the Energon Gestalts.  It's ridiculous.  I have to go out of my way just to find new figures these days.  The best I've found so far was a walmart nearly an hour away from me that had only two alt silverstreaks left for $15 each.  I was tempted to snatch them up, but passed.  I came back a week later and they were marked down to $10.  So I bought'em then.  $20 for two alts is a deal.  If i want newer alts, I have to go to Target or TRU, which I hate doing because their prices are always like $21-25 for just one alt.  I'm a college student...gotta live on a budget, you know :thumb

Its marketing and they sell slightly more and shift some dead stock in the short run but its actually harmful in terms of the long run, its a very american thing and isnt emulated by Takara, you want 6 Prowls? thats what you get

Wal-mart actually have enough muscle to change the inane distribution practices at Hasbro though so heres hoping for some change.

So the six new Alt/BTs rumored for 2006 are just a bunch of crappy repaints of previous molds?  :tdown

That sucks bad...

Actually this is not an uncommon practice at all.  It is also not exclusive to the toy industry.  Many companies like Hasbro are good at 'making' or 'marketing' a product, but have little to no experience in the best distribution of that product, how to make it easy for retailers to sell it, or even why and how the customers are making buying decisions when purchasing the product.

Retailers often educate and effect change with manufacturers with the promise of being able to sell more product.  Walmart is one of the leaders in doing this.  Walmart is also big enough to be able to have the financial means to say to Hasbro, "We'll buy enough to make it worth it for you to give us custom case packs.

So I would say Hunter, that Walmart and Target sitting down with Hasbro and telling them what they need to sell more toys is probably exactly what did happen.  The things Hasbro has to worry about is being able to make minimum production runs of each to pay for the molds, custom packs, etc.  Which is the main reason they pack the way they do.

Okay, so can someone explain to me why all the Wal-Mart stories in Southwest Missouri STOPPED carrying Alternators all together?  It's not a situation where the shelves are flooded - the shelves are bare - they just refuse to restock, and haven't since MAY.  Obviously Wal-Mart isn't too interested in selling toys, either.

on a side note...i went to my local target today, the one right by my house and found alternators had been restocked. They have previously 1 ravage and 1 swindle....now they have another ravage, shockblast, grimlock and wheeljack...all of which i have....they also had been completely restocked of the newest cybertron assortments. I also found both series 1 & 2  of the cybertron all stars.....they one of each at khols.

On this walmart thing....if its true? good for them and us right? Means we will probably get more of the newer stuff since they always came with old stuff that practically eveyone already has...so of course they are going to warm the shelves...Plus there are a lot more alternators now then when they started to fill the case packs with.

My walmarts around here have been energon less for a long time. they didnt even clearance them...Even Cybertron is not very well stocked. the shelves are always barren...pretty much of all toys...not just transformers....wal mart has been blowing since star wars IMO.
