Might I also say that there is such a thing as telling a story. It seems like all you guys want is a TF version of Playboy.

you know this is a comic where the main media utilized is visual, sure a story is needed but that is secondary to flowing pictures.

Comic - primary media is visual

Book - primary media is story

I think you misunderstand the role of artwork in a comic. The story is just as important in a comic book; it's just that it is told visually rather than through exposition and dialogue. But the story must still be there. Pictures alone do not a succesful comic make.

And that was my point.

I agree to an extent, but the story is not just as important in comics, at least not at this level, this is not a cult comic or a deeply thought out and involving saga, if the artwork sucks but has a good story they will lose custom as children are very visual.  If the art is great but the story sucks they will again lose custom but the attrition rate will be lower.  Its not a coincidence that children watch crappy TV shows when there are far better books out ther ;)

I would agree with that if not for the fact of the Marvel TF comics. Even when I was a kid I knew those things sucked visually. And I never got into them as a result. Apparently I've missed out, but I'm like, "look if they can't even get the thing to look good, why would I bother to read it?". Good or at least passable artwork should be a no-brainer in a visual medium.

Except for one thing, kids don't buy comics anymore.

This book is (more or less) intended for adults; however, it will be "kid-friendly" since it is a Hasbro toy property.

well with those first few pages, i kinda like it.  i cant wait to get the other issues.  I only wish i read all of the DW series before it was RIPd :(

you speak the truth

I can't remember when the last time was that I saw an actual kid in a comic book store... besides mine. (And he hates it there.)

I must admit I'm intruiged. It's Furman, and I must admit Furmans non-epic-end-of-the-world stuff was pretty good (The epic stuff got old fast). As such, I'm willing to give it a shot. Storywise, I have faith. And frankly, the humans seem to be somewhat tolerable, as they're not kids.

Artwise, however, I have to admit I'm unimpressed. We've seen better, and to be honest it looks like the same guy who did the Devils Due crossovers - The guy could draw humans better than anything at Dreamwave, but he can't draw 'bots for toffee. So hopefully he'll either shape up or they'll get someone better.

So I have faith. But I'm sincerely hoping the artwork improves, as whilst it may sound shallow, but the artwork is why I really bought the Dreamwave books - the writing was good, but there's just as good fanfic out there. But the art was stunning (Compared to Marvel) and the writing was decent enough (Even the Minicon Fortress arc of Armada I enjoyed) so the combination made the purchase worthwhile.

So I'm looking positive.

But the art was stunning (Compared to Marvel)

Blot smeared on the site of a wall is better art than Marvel's G1 effort.

Shit smeared on the site of a wall is better art than Marvel's G1 effort.

No one should ever be allowed to rationalize mediocre artwork by comparing it to Marvel. That's like shooting fish in a barrel.

but thats making my point, you didnt get into them due to the artwork quality, the comic survived due to the toys on sale.  that said you didnt miss anything, the US Marvel TF comics were dire in both artistic and story quality, its with honesty not patriotism that i say the UK tf comics were far superior in both aspects (not exactly difficult though ;)
