Rodimus Prime

Recommended Posts

i loved roddie but i can see why they droped him he just was not as big as prime. plus he had a lame toy that was basicly a camper van with flames

idd of like to see prime come back and be as to roddie as A3 was to prime

What would the ideal Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime Earth alt mode be? Not a Cybertronian Winnebego, but a real Earth alt mode.

I also have no problems with rodimus prime.  Well only when other fans relate to him religiously.

Prime made plenty of mistakes in the comic book but he was rather stuffy in the cartoon. But so was Duke from Gi-joe and Liono from Thundercats. That was how people made leaders in the 80's. They were all business.

Funny, I thought that Lion-o was the poster child for whiny character-developing leader. [/hijack]

Actually I thought E Rodimus' alt mode was perfect -- a racing semi. Makes sense, doesn't it? I mean, you combine a truck with a race car and there you go! (And BTW those *are* real vehicles. Scary looking, but real.) The robot mode didn't live up to the character, however. But hey, it was a deluxe with a powerlinxing gimmick.

It's funny how when I was watching G1 in the 80's, I never once thought about comparing Optimus to Rodimus. I knew that they were different and I was fine with that. I thought Optimus was really cool, and I thought Rodimus was really cool.

And FWIW I really don't think Rodimus Prime was the biggest problem kids had with Season 3. I think the problem was that the whole feel of the cartoon had changed; the settings were different, the situation was very different, the main characters had all been replaced, and there was a random, aimless quality to season 3. G1 had been very clearly set up in MTMTE: Transformers battling on Earth for control of Cybertron. Easy enough to understand. Post-TF:TM there was no struggle anymore, since the Autobots had won. And then there were the multiple locations. Are the Autobots based in Autobot City? On Cybertron? Somewhere else? And what about the Decepticons? How come they can just show up on Earth anytime, and other times they're on Charr, or battling on the Barren Asteroid of the Week? Five Faces of Darkness did a TERRIBLE job of setting up Season 3 because it didn't provide a clear "problem" that needed to be addressed (e.g. the "problem" in seasons 1 & 2 was the Decepticons trying to steal Earth's energy and conquer Cybertron). Instead there was just this random "well I guess the Autobots won...... but they still fight and stuff" quality to the show.

^^^agreed...they took a lot of the human and earth element out...which made it less interesting for everybody.  It became a battle in outer space instead of on Earth so it was less dramatic.

But again...Rodimus had the opp to be a force to be reckoned with and I think the writers, given more time(seasons) may have developed him into that character.

I just don't think Hasbro invested in the character. And ever since, it's been all about Optimus Prime bla bla bla... talk about overcompensating. It would have been nice to have more than one Rodimus update/homage in the past 20 years, while they keep cranking out new versions of Optimus Prime... :grr

Well Optimus will always rule all because of his gentle nature that was established in G1.  Kids cant help but like him.  That is why, i believe, he continues to be reincarnated in every series.  Rodimus is a character from the last days of G1.  I guess they may figure he didnt work, in regards to popularity, as a leader back then, so he prob wont work now.

Too bad tho, he was a great concept and I've always liked him.

:tfgrin sez: "I got the job cause I got my boss killed. Woo!"

I still despise him. Though I have both toys.  :redface

Ah. I got no real beef with Mr. short circuits himself. :) Flaws make for more interesting characters. Both him and Magnus reaffirmed that Prime's robo-shoes were too big to fill.

I still dont like Rodimus no matter what is said. He was an insecure snot nosed punk before he became the Autobot leader and was one while he was in command. I'm supposed to feel sorry for him? NEVER! And thats not because Prime is a favorite of mine either I just think Rodimus was a poor leader and whined way too much instead of thinking about his fellow Autobots. Why they ever wrote it into the story of him becoming leaader of the Autobots is beyond me. They should have stuck with Ultra Magnus or made Grimlock leader because I could never think of two better Autobot commanders then those two.
