Rodimus Prime

Recommended Posts

I know he was reviled in his day for not being Optimus, but does anybody else feel like Rodimus got the shaft a bit too quick? I mean Optimus comes back and everyone just ditches the guy.

So much for all his character development in "Burden Hardest to Bear" and "Dark Awakening".

Given all the importance they give the Matrix in season 3, you'd think that most of them would respect the concept of "The Chosen One".  Optimus was merely a matrix bearer (admittedly for 10 million years, so he picked up a bit along the way), but Rodimus was the destined leader.

ya writers dropped the ball with Rodimus.  He shoulda been the kick ass leader of all kick ass leaders.  The chosen one shoulda been better than a matrix bearer.

I always thought Rodimus was a great character and that he was in some ways better than Optimus because you got to see him "develop" and "grow".  You saw him make mistakes and learn from them, saw him want to shun responsibility but then ultimately learn that we all have our place and responsibility comes along with its own rewards.

Optimus was just good and made all the right choices from the start.  To me, although an idolized character ...Optimus was just not as real to me.

i loved roddie but i can see why they droped him he just was not as big as prime. plus he had a lame toy that was basicly a camper van with flames

idd of like to see prime come back and be as to roddie as A3 was to prime

I never hated Roddy.  Prime probably went through the same motions getting used to leadership.  He never really got the chance to prove himself.

Then again I love Prime.  I mean, I didn't exactly name myself Nexus Rod. :tflaugh

Rodimus Prime was an incredible character concept... not groundbreaking in a fiction sense but for a childrens 80's cartoon he was, and for that he was replaced.  He hated his job, he wasn't sure why the war was even going on by that point.  And he knew he would never live up to Optimus.

But being as it was an 80's cartoon, kids (myself included) wanted Optimus Back because he was the best leader.  But like Bainreese said, he wasn't real, he never made mistakes in the cartoon, and he was always the "calvary" portion of the show.

The writers and Hasbro dropped the ball with rodimus, both toy and character.  I think, given life maybe in a comic incarnation of season 3-4 (hopes) he can be given a chance to shine

I liked Rodimus from the very start, but then I wasn't too big on Optimus. I liked how Rodimus was insecure and learning from his mistakes.

I only TF had good writers then, Rodimus might haven been so great they would've skipped on OP getting back altogether. Unfortunately, there was no consistency then, just resets. So, Rodimus was learning in one ep, and was whining about the same problem in the next ep. Even in the UK Comics (which I admittedly only read when they were re-released) he was a bit too much of a whiner IMO.

Too bad, because he really could be great.

(Of course, the toy sucked big time !!! :guh )

Prime made plenty of mistakes in the comic book but he was rather stuffy in the cartoon. But so was Duke from Gi-joe and Liono from Thundercats. That was how people made leaders in the 80's. They were all business.

I agree with everyone else pretty much. The potential was there for Rod to become a great character but sadly transformers did not last long enough for this to happen.

In honor of Roddy I present the following kick arss pic:
