Universe Ruination

The colors aren't all that hideous. The desert camo part isn't bad, it's just the ghastly orange parts that are a problem. They should have made them a dark brown or black.

I was hoping they would do a reissue. Bruticas, how he was suppose to be.

Usually I dont take sides between Hasbro and Takara because I like them both, but Takara would never release a piece of crap like this.  Bruticas is the one Combiner that i know they still have the molds for, so i was hoping Hasbro would release it as a commemoritive set, but if they are going to make it this way, I will wait for Takara to do it, or pay the big bucks for an original.  Does anyone else feel the same way?

Yeah, suck it up, buddy. Takara put out the Bruticus recolor first in the form of CarRobots Valdigus and the two US versions I have (Ruination, Urban Camo Ruination) are about the same in terms of plastic quality with it. And Bruticus hasn't had stickers since the G2 version. Valdigus has about two stickers, one on Valdigus' chest plate and one on Onslaught's. So, basically, dash your hopes and weep in a pillow or something, 'cause metal chested versions in the original colors most likely ain't happening.

What??? G1 wasn't metal and I doubt Battle Gaea was...never had him though.

Actually, there were both metal and plastic chested versions of the combaticons released in the US and Japan, in very limited quantities.

I can vouch for that. I had 2 Swindles at different times. One with a metal, purple painted chest that was bought separate on the card, and another with a plastic chest cast in charcoal grey that was with the Bruticus gift set. Those seem to be much more common.

can you show me a picture?

I have the RID Ruination, and I have some knockoff combiners. I don't know about the Universe re-issue, the RID Combaticons were pretty sturdy. Of the knockoffs I have, Abominus is probably the best made...with defensor being the poorest. The damn thing won't even stay together.

Superion is pretty crappy too now that I think of it.

I picked up my Universe Ruination yesterday, and i must say, I was shocked beyond belief. It came with no stickers and was made out of the same cheap plastic that the knock offs are made out of. I was hoping the chests would be metal, but i wouldnt of been to shocked to find it plastic, Macau style. This is the first Bruticas recolor that i have bought, are camo ruination and RID ruination made with the same cheap plastic? First of all this isn't the 80's. Stickers are obsolete because they peel off. Die cast is bad, bad! It just adds extra weight to the plastic that the plastic can't carry and makes the toy break all the much more quickly for having to carry all that weight.

The plastic isn't cheaper todays toys are made with a much softer rubbier plastic so that they don't break as easily as they used too. The reason why G1 toys felt so durable was because the plastic was harder but it also cracked more easily compared to todays plastic. I have had enough experiences where I have dropped the newer toys that prove this. They just bounce off the floor unscathed. While most G1 toys just automatically crack or break. Especially the ones with Die-cast. Though I still would suggest not dropping your toys. :tfgrin

Also if the joints seem loose it's most likely because of mold degradation. After remaking a toy from the same mold long enough. The mold starts to warp and the toy that comes out ends up being more loose or more tightly jointed than the original.

Actually, die-cast metal is no longer used because it's become particularly expensive to use, not as expensive as the markup on the G1 reissues would have you think, but expensive none the less.
