If Transformers came back with a GOOD show...

Recommended Posts

The basic premise is the same and of course the stories are modernized.

And that is what Japanese writers are trying to do, I think. To recapture the magic of G1 by trying to use the same names and some story ideas. Which will never work.

We need something completely new and daring. Like Enterprise was for Star Trek. But without the cancelling.  :tftongue

You know I wouldnt mind seeing a new serious but like everyone says, something new, lets stop trying to recycle megatron and optimus prime's name for every show so that we can get that name recognition, I'd respect a show much more if they actually showed some originality, and you know for all you G1 haters, in 20 years people will be saying the same thing about your precious beast wars.  If it wasnt for G1, there'd be no beast wars, RID, armada, energon, etc..  And I'm sure I"m not the only one thinking what retarded toy are they going to make and try and say its megatron and then repaint it as galvatron.

The new Transformers show should be completely different from what we have seen. And if we want to achieve this then changes will have to be made. Personally I think Mainframe should animate it while a team of western writers does the writing. No offense but after 4 Japanese series none of which were all that innovative I think that the Japanese may not be up to starting a new Transformers mythos.

Beast Wars was also completely different and only later it was decided to tie it in to G1. And that is why it worked so well, because it was new and refreshing. In that spirit I have the following ideas for a new Transformers show:

The show should take place on Cyberton with all the action taking place there. So no human involvement at all.

The show should deal with the Transformers fighthing a war, not a search for Energon or the hunt for Mini-cons or whatever. Just simple, a civil war that has to be won.

There should be new factions so no Autobots and Decepticons. Same of the characters, no more Optimus Prime, Megatron or Starscream. And perhaps a new name for Cybertron.

The focus should be on the characters again so a smaller rotating cast may be peferable. Of course Transformers should also die/expire to reinforce the idea that war always comes with losses. That would also clear the way for new toys.

There should be a traitor among the bad guys. So far that sounds cliche, I know. But unlike Starscream, this traitor has to live with having an incompetent but incredibly powerful leader. This leader thinks power is everything but his second in command is actually a lot smarter than him and is slowly trying to take over. He finally does so when he lures his former leader into a trap along with several good guys. This clever ploy will earn him the trust of his new troops.

The leader of the good guys should just be a robot without any super mode. He should be one of the solider who was made leader based on his abilities as a warrior. Later he could then be awarded one but it should be used sparingly.

On that note, Transformers should have special abilties but as in Beast Wars toy gimmicks shoulds not be overly used in the show. Good fighting skills should once again be more important than wheter one has a supermode. Special abilities should also have downsides such as in G1 were only a select group of Transformers could be converted into a triple changer.

The toyline can feature Mini-Cons but in the show they could be portrayed as say Mini-Bots. Smaller Transformers with support functions.

Combiners can be made, I am all for that. But they should be used sparingly because of energy reasons or mental problems due to having several minds form one larger one. Transformers endlessly combining with eachother should be stopped in favor of focusing on actual battle skills. If that is used then also very sparingly. The less it is used the more special it is.

That is all I can think of for now. If anyone has any ideas, let me know.  :thumb

BW lost its "new and refreshing" feeling when the writers decided to make it just another chapter in the G1 Saga(from Agenda onward) rather than let it become its own saga. BM was a step in the right direction but it was "Too much, too soon". BM was change for the the sake of change.

How about we just strip away the transformers brand names aswell, and maybe the alternate modes....Or maybe even ditch the whole robot thing entirely

Wait! I just thought of another! Why dont they just realese the whole original series but redub it and change names!

:roll

I think the problem is that the last time they tried to do this (via Rodimus and Galvatron) Transformers died out and lost touch with the fan base.

While I see your point and do long for something new and daring I think it could be very treacherous waters being ventured into.

I personally thought that it was a daring (and interesting) move to do away with the old leaders. Though it was risky, it was more intriguing that what most of the newer shows have done. But it does end up in alienating fans, unfortunately.

BW was another chapter in the G1 saga from "possession" in S1.  Season 3 wasn't 'new and refreshing' becuase it was rushed, especially the last 3 episodes.  It has nothing to do with being G1-linked.

True but these new shows are probably alienating fans as well. I mean aside from him being the leader, Energon Prime had little qualities of G1 Prime. G1 Prime would never have let Kicker endanger himself like that.

And I think fans will get used to new characters in the end. I loved Galvatron in the movie (well duh, he had the voice of Nimoy) but in the show he was a lunatic with high pitched voice.

If Rodimus had been done better fan appreciation would have been a little higher as well.

I for one would not mind new characters but they would have to be interesting ones like the Beast Wars characters. The last 3 shows have had barely any interesting characters at all.

well, ds9, I think Starscream in Armada was the closest to an interesting character. He certainly had more personality than the rest of the cast, but at least the others had personalities. In Energon they were all just generic robots whose only purpose was, well, to hawk the toys (I know that's the whole point of Transformers, but did they have to be so obvious about it in Energon/Superlink?)
