more g1ish tracks from sideswipe

Recommended Posts

Well guys, this is my first repaint of any kind to a transformer, im just kinda playing it by ear and seeing wich stuff i can take apart right now without damaging it

but yeah i want to repaint sideswipe int tracks because i always thought the robot mode looked better for tracks

with this being said i have a few questions that im hoping someone can answer

how do i get this pin out, its not like the others and im not quite sure how to go about removing it, would heating it up with a soldering iron be good enough to pop it out?

I would honestly suggest to just do some masking. I too would prefer to completely disassemble it but you might end up with a warped or broken part. It would be great if someone has a way to do it though.

Anyway, here's something for yah  :tfgrin The chest part should be white though...

The pic might help you out in this bash. Goodluck  :thumb

all these trackswipe coming out are sweet considering it was meant to be that way but wasnt there a windchager mustang suppose to be made  that would be cool if someone did that custom

yeah, im totally dissasembling it, so far ive gotten all of the rear car shell off of him, im still trying to figure out how to get that pin out of his knee. i wanna take it all apart to get all the parts painted nice and cleanly painted. i plan on doing a blue/white/red/and black color scheme, the red being very minimal, i want to paint almost the whole interior white with red accents(to match the wings from g-1 toy).

im not sure which would look better for tracks, the sideswipe head painted white and pink, or an alternators tracks head. if i decide to go with the tracks head could someone point me in the direction of someone that can duplicate the head for me, thanx

If your'e talking about the pic of the "leg rivet" then yes, heat up  the exposed part of the rivet/pin with your iron and then pull the ENTIRE leg assembly from the FENDER assembly then you can continue disassembly of the leg/fender section. It will work, I did it on my Alt. Vixen.

By the way len d69, yours looks sweet,  Did you mod the hood also? looks shorter in the pic.

And fetherw8, like the digibash good luck on the rest. Never thought of Tracks as a Viper. Pretty sweet

The idea is excellent...and the fact that the Sideswipe mold was originally meant to be Tracks is only further reason to do this.

I've only worked with four Alternator molds as far as kitbashing...and I found the Sideswipe mold to be the biggest pain in the @$$.  I would say Smokescreen is the easiest, followed by Grimlock, and then Meister...as far as the ones that I have done.

I don't know if disassembling is the right way to go though...at first I always tried hat...but sometimes it created bigger problems...sometimes a really thorough masking job can produce results that are just as good.

MattimusPrime - You're right, Grimlock was originally intended to be Windcharger, and was supposed to have the head of Decepticharge.

fetherw8 - I don't think anyone repro's the Tracks head yet...but I'm sure if we keep up the petition to Ken from Transrepro...he soon will.

I would stick with the Tracks head, and your best bet for one of those is to post in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum.  I posted for about two days looking for one, and someone was willing to trade me one for a few Alternator parts.

Tkae a look at this.  It might help.

I will as soon as I can get a Decepticharge figure.

i spent about a half an hour trying to get that stupid pin out and i couldnt, but ill keep trying, the window one is realy tough too, i would heat one of the pins and try to pull it out but the other pin wouldnt let it budge any, i guess i have to heat both at the same time, its too bad that i only have one soldering iron to do the job

petty much everything now is taken apart and ready to be cleaned, primed and painted. the only thing i still have to take apart is the legs and his wind sheild(window), if i have to ill just mask off all the parts but it would be a hell of alot easier to just take it apart, ill give it one more try and if i cant get them out then ill just mask it

did you get the pins out of the legs yet? It takes a while for the pin to get hot enough to pull the leg assembly apart. At least it did for me.

as far as paint, i would use fusion, on my first one i primed and then painted, and some of the paint chipped off. with the fusion i havent had that problem yet
