Takara Dissolved

As has been noted before, Tomy has a presense here in the US.  I see a likely possibility of Tomy nixing the Hasbro license and just releasing the toys here themselves.

Then they wouldn't be Transformers. Hasbro owns the brand name and characters.

but isn't it hasbro who distributes tomy merchandice in america?

Mostly just the Zoids stuff. The Thomas the Tankengine line is Tomy only and I remember having toy cars when I was a kid that were made by Tomy. So it may be a possibliity that Tomy will be nixing Hasbro and just releasing the TF line themselves which would be fine by me considering the fact that the shelves where the Thomas the Tankengine things are are ussually full while our transformers shelves are often empty or nearly empty. So if Tomy takes over every thing I foresee better TF shelf filling. And maybe they`ll have Walicron put the Alts back out on the shelves as I havn`t seen an Alt on the shelf at Walmart for about 5 months! I`ve only been able to find them at Target Greatlands and Toys r Us occassionally. :tfmad

seems like the only things that Tomy distributes itself are little collectable cars. anything else seems to be distributed by hasbro.

the only toy line from TOMY thats not aimed at young childern that I've heared of is zoids, no one has given any evidenc that TOMY can handle Transformers, when most the stuff you put out is kiddy crap older collectors will shy away.

So it`s possible they`ll look at TF`s the same way they look at the collector cars.

Blot your pants because I have a bad feeling about this.  As for japan only TF toys being readily available over here, crap in one hand wish in the other and see which hand fills up first.  Hold your nose too.

Has anyone considered the possibility that we might get some really good Transformers in the future as a result of this deal?

Maybe someone at Tommy will tactfully tell Has/Tak to chill out with the seizure inducing paint jobs on some of the newer Transformers.  OR maybe the many woeful distribution problems will finally be resolved. It certainly can’t get worse right?

.....or can it?

Sorry, but that's wishfull thinking at best.

As I already said elsewhere, this may be good this may be bad, I don't know. Transformer quality and design has stepped up considerably since the days of Armada and it would be unwise of either Habro or Tomy to drop it now.

I'm content right now with the awsomeness that is Cybertron and as long as they complete the line I'm happy. What lays beyond right now is no concern of mine. I'll worry when the time comes to.

Can't happen. Ever. Bandai or Mattel could buy Takara and Hasbro would still be the only company that sells Transformers in their markets. The name and premise to the "Transformers" is a wholy-owned unit of Hasbro. The story & name is the creation of Hasbro and those agents it hired. (Marvel, Mainframe, etc.)

The arrangement with Takara is that Takara designs the toys or signs off on Hasbro's designs, which it then owns the rights to sell in them in their markets. Hasbro has distribution rights in every other market (like 85% of the globe to Takara's 15%).

Takara in turn is legally required to offer Hasbro first refusal rights to any transforming robot series they create. The absolute WORST CASE SCENARIO is that Tomy would allow Hasbro to buy out the partnership and then not sell TFs in Japan at all. Which they wouldn't do and cut themselves off from a major source of income.

And even if Takara-Tomy dropped Tfs completely, Hasbro can & has made TFs without the support of Takara. and can easily do so again. They already hired Gonzo directly to animate the new GI JOE cartoon, which will be written by Western writers. They can just as easily do that in 2007 with the Post-Movie TF show. They still have Bob Forward's phone # if it comes to that. ;)

Actually that wouldn't be a bad idea I just wish Tomy would release the Tomica Die Cast cars in the US.  You know, all those 1:64 skylines rx7's rx-8's supras nsx's.  I'd love to get my hands on those for a good price.
