New TF movie - maybe not going to be "original"?

Recommended Posts

I hate to play Unicron's advocate, but the truth is, while we all see this as a chance to redo G1 right (forgetting basically everything from Armada onward), but Hasbro is seeing this is a marketing device. I doubt they'll give two skidplates about how it turns out as long as it sells toys. So, while it has a more intimate value and meaning for most of us, for the Hasbro execs, it means $$$.

I say, wait and see what they come up with. Then we can all Starscream.

*Points to TF Cybertron*

Yeah... :redface

True. But at least with that, we're finally getting primus!

lets hope for something like x men rather than streetfighter. this movie will take millions at the box office wether good or not

Maybe the plot will go like this, A kid get a new car from a creepy antique salesman who warn the lad of 3 rules of ownership. Number one on bright sunny days. Number two, never operate in the rain. Number three, never refuel after Midnight.

Later like you didn't know it, Buddy doesn't make it home before the rain and poof. 8 new sentient cars pop out of his car. They then refuel after midnight and gain the ability to transform from military vehicle to giant walking robotic nightmares. Can Buddy and his sentient Beatle, Gizmo stop this threat to Mankind?

cough!*gremlins!*cough!

It's almost expected that we'd be cynical over this.

Look at how other movies based on franchises turned out -- especially crap like Garfield, Inspector Gadget, Scooby Doo, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Street Fighter, Super Mario Bros...need I go on? It's almost expected that a movie that's taken from a hot or once-hot property will be disappointing.

I think that's why we're all doom and gloomy.

I think you just prefer to be that way.

You are forgetting about Spider-Man, X-Men, Batman, Hulk, Superman, etc.

And dare I say -- take a look at the friggin' source material. How can you possibly screw up something that was never that great to begin with?

OK...the cynicism's expected from your corner, but you do realize most people on this board still worship G1. So they have high hopes.

It doesn't sound that way to me. I don't hear a lot of people saying "cool I'm excited." What I do hear is a lot of gloom and doom.

And BTW I hate to say it, but it's not cynical to say that G1 isn't all that great. Grab one of your friends sometime and have them watch G1 with you, and ask them what they think. I'm only speaking from outside the fanboy bubble, which you may not like, admittedly. But the thing is, most of the moviegoing public isn't anxiously awaiting this film. Staying true to an old, cheesy cartoon is not the way to change that.

P.S. You know what's funny? The whole reason we have Armada/Energon/Cybertron is b/c the fandom bitched and bitched about Beast Machines, and went ga-ga when Hasbro imported CarRobots from Japan. Why? Because BM was different and RiD looked familiar to the GeeWun fans. I rest my case.

i'm still not entirly sure where the idea that this was going to be a hugely budgeted movie came from....  most Movie execs would be like, "Transformers?  is this about d00d on d00d action?"
