A question about Transforming robots

Recommended Posts

Hah!

Which one?

Alpha Centuri is a binary star.

Anyway, Cybertron in the G1 comics wandered off its axis, in the cartoon it was never said (I think) and it got shoved around anyway and niether Armada, Energon, GF, Cybertron and so on have never said as far as I know.

That Marvel comic origin is so weak.

Why don't we just make Transformers all into ghosts and goblins and vampires?

I hate when Scifi crosses with Supernatural elements.

The origin of Primus presented in the current shows is the one I follow, and since it's the first to be presented in animated canon, I consider it the true origin.

He's simply God. Primus is the creator of the universe. All planets, all lifeforms. Life on Cybertron, lacking a sun, could not sustain organic evolution. The lifeorms and organisms evolved mechanically, bypassing the need. Earthlings, having an organic sun, plants, etc, evolved organically.

Saying Unicron is Primus' nemesis equal is weak and cliche', IMO. Unicron is less than Primus. He's actually a creation of Primus and bears Primus' spark energy. His energy is no different. There is no good or evil between the two giants, as their agenda and purpose is beyond anything that lifeforms would understand or associate with.

Primus created Unicron to be a sun for Cybertron, but because of the nature of their war and energy transference between mechanical beings, the evolution of the sun become something terrible, and ironically, punished them for the very things that helped create Unicron's body.

What exactly makes this origin stronger or weaker than the G1 version? It's credible (by Scifi standards), just as the G1 version is. And for someone who hates Scif fi crossing with supernatural, this view seems to bear the hallmarks of both. Accepting that TFs have sparks brings the whole thing into the supernatural imediately.

And Unicron in G1 (as I see it) is chaotic, not evil. Percieved as evil, perhaps, but simply a vast force of chaos. He seeks to destroy all becasue that is his nature.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not disparaging the 'Armadaverse' origin, simply saying that it cannot really be held to be stronger than the G1 version.

Besides, the arguement about which is best is pointless. They're both views on different imaginary universe. They happen to be great stories, but there's no point getting vitriolic about them.

Both are just as valid. It just surprises me when someone feels threatened when someone else voices their preference in origin and storyline. It's as if they feel that another's opinion invalidates their own. I say that all the story arcs are good. I like G1 myself, but BW/BM is fairly interesting. I just dislike any attempt to weave them into one misshapen oversized story. That, IMO, is unneeded.

They retained their basic shape to keep a conection to their minions (kind of like many religions have gods that have human based shapes, it allows us to relate to them better i think)

Well said!

-Humans/Humanoids have an Anthropomorphic attachment to the Idols they Create &

Worship because they Need to Both >understand the Infinite power of the Universe

AND >know that they are part OF it.

Of couse, the REAL Explanation is:

Unicron has feet so he can stand on my shelf.

they have feet so they can play SOCCER!!! :D

The One has a foot fetish?

May I just speak for the record in that the G1 origin is not weak, but quite well though out.

As for the idea of vampires and all that stuff, well if you've ever read any of the media on Galvatron and his leutenants, it preaty much explains that anything Unicron touches becomes something else entirely, the idea is that Galvatron is more than just evil, like something more demonic.

They are always described in that way, Transformers yes, but much more as aspects of the Great Devourer of Worlds himself. Like dark supermen, or vampires but with none of the weaknesses.

Each one created as demigods. Sadly Cyclonus didn't seem to be Shockwave-proof, but then any bot that can blow a hole through two or more Omega Centinals in one go, and is basically a walking nuclear reactor would dance on anybodies grave.

This fits in with the G1 mythos as Primus and Unicron are both beings from someplace else.

As for Cybertron being in orbit around Alpha Centauri, well yes it was, but when the war started to get going the weapons used blew it out of orbit.

At the end of the day the thing is that you have good and evil, Primus as a supernova in the darkness, and Unicron a deep black dense rock in the path of the living universe. What forms either side takes is immaterial in the scheme of things, that they exist is balance.

i didnt watch enough of energon to understand anything in the story line, a few episodes they featured primus and i was quite confused.

in the g1 repect i was under the impresion that it was basicaly there were two ideals: chaos wich in the creation of the universe created itself in the form of the monsterous unicron. and the good created the planet of cybertron and the matrix. imo ones cannot exist without the other. sure unicron is dead in the cartoon, but chaos doesnt need a physical form to inspire insidious deeds. thats why there is a decepticon faction i believe.

as far as "thegood side/primus" creating cybertron and "chaos" creating unicron i think i read that in the dreamwave encyclopedia'ish 8 issue series "more than meats the eyes". it was in issue 8 were they reflected on unicron and the matrix. i  might be wrong about everything ive said above so dont get mad if i am because i dont remeber exactly.

did anyone other than me read the G2 comics? they seemed to go on about prime getting the answers from the high council and how the earliest transformers were less evolved. It also went on about how they were "Bio Morphic Reproduction" involved in this. No joke. its right in there. and it shows how transformers can evolve into the next step.  i.e Jxiaxus.

I personally like the G1 version of the story better, but even if I didn't, I'd still say it was "right".  Otherwise it would be akin to saying "I don't think the idea of God creating the earth and it's inhabitants in six days and resting on the seventh is a good enough story, I think I'll write another version, and call it "The Bible: Armada".  By virtue of precedence, I feel that the oldest story should bew considered "canon", and any subsequent story arc should be considered a secondary, alternate "what if?" scenario, and nothing more.  That doesn't mean it can't be a valid story in it's own right, but you can't just go around replacing existing canon because you think of something better.  Unless you're a 12th century Chinese Emperor, or King James. :roll

Interesting topic. I have found it odd that all Transformers have 2 legs and two hands/ Why would they have a design like that while 4 arms might even be better? Strangely enough most of them have two. Go figure.

The Beast Machines line was the first to have very alien robot and alt modes and I loved that aspect.

As for Unicron and Primus, the Marvel comic origin is my favorite though a bit weak It makes perfect sense for the Transformers to be one race with the Autobots doing the work and the Decepticons doing the fighting. DW had something there.

I think Unicron is pure evil because he wants to destroy everything. Where as Galactus (who also eats whole planets) only does so to feed himself.

And that is the ultimate goal of the Transformers. They are created by Primus to stop Unicron. He placed his essence in the Creation Matrix and went into statis awaiting the day his creations are ready/
