And the latest from Don:

Now that we are back on regular reports, I’d like to make an important announcement.

Welcome to the project Mr. Ian Bryce. Ian will produce this movie with Tom Desanto, Mr. Lorenzo, and myself. He will have the hardest and most thankless job of all, functioning in the line producer position. Basically, that means that he makes sure we all finish on time and on schedule. At gunpoint if need be.

Ian is one of the biggest and most successful people in Hollywood in his job. I first crossed paths with him ten years ago when Oliver Stone and I tried to do a good update of PLANET OF THE APES. Since that time he’s done a few little films that you have heard of, like SPIDER-MAN and SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. Most recently he worked with out director on the terrific summer film, THE ISLAND.

And for the UK Stooges, Ian is one of you, and a gentleman to boot! From what I can tell, a smart, straight shooter who wants what is best for the project.

Ian, having worked with Michael before, also will be having significant impact on the creative decisions of the film. Yes, he knows about the voice actor movement. Yes, he knows about the board and like the writers, Tom and the DW execs, he will hopefully come and interact with you. Yes, this is big news for the project insofar as you only bring someone like this on when you are seriously close to making the film.

You can discuss among yourselves. Time constraints due to the holiday and SHOOT-EM-UP mean I will not answer anything today.

But welcome Ian Bryce….

We are just getting started… finally!

And now Ian Bryce has responded himself:

Thank you to Don for his welcoming message and to all who responded to it. I appreciate those comments very much.

I am thrilled to be joining Don, Tom, Lorenzo and Bay as we embark on this journey. I am excited to be part of the team and look forward to helping create an exciting film with a great story and really cool visuals that will hopefully satisfy Transformers fans both old and new.

If it is of interest, I can tell you that I was at a well known visual effects house last week to meet with them about their possible involvement in the show. The artists and animators were EXTREMELY excited about working on this film!

Thanks again for the welcome messaages.....

Hmmmm.

Hmmmm.

Perhaps he was at ILM?

Sounds like it. Don did say he'd be surprised if ILM wasn't used, since they've worked with both Bay and Speilberg.

Just the fact that it's coming out in this era of filmmaking means it will look fantastic...now if it's really ILM, it'll look damn near impeccable.

Assuming everything else were to go wrong with this flick, which I seriously DO NOT anticipate, It will still likely be a marvel to look at.

I hope they make an 70mm print, so we can see prime in 1:1 scale.  :drool

as long as the movie is good and the toys come out in the uk at the correct time i'll be happy

Am I the only one who thinks ILM is overrated? I haven't been that impressed with their stuff in recent years. IMO the best CG effect of all time is Buckbeak the hippogriff from the third Harry Potter movie. But then, we're talking about robots -- they're a bit easier to manage than living creatures.

Am I the only one who thinks ILM is overrated?

yes
