not realy, just that they knew they were past a certain point in their history and development. I like to think that the name predicons was taken up because they played a great role in creating or converting decepticons maybe even all of cybertron, over to the new method.

But I thought they were called Maximals and Predacons before the events of BW. 

 

How could they know that they were going to get newer, more efficient upgrades?

The DNA scan thing shows that this type of thing was routine, and that they were built with this end in mind; a new era in Transformers.

or perhaps the beast wars creators wanted to have a fresh approch or did,nt know what the hell they were doing.... like the spark that comes out of optimus prime to go to optimus primal... without searching about the matrix first and almost screwed that up ....

 

personnally i think they should have stayed with autobot/decepticon....

 

since they were not even animals when they arrived on earth i have a hard time justifying the reason of their factions maximals/predacons but it would have made since to rename AFTER their format and not before...

 

but at least they kept the timeline right... from my perspective at least....

Hey, you don't know. Maybe they had already an animal mod it was damaged beyond repair, so they needed a new one. hence the capsul system scan that need a new model. Anyway, their ship was to small for autobots.

 

I like to think the previous mods of Optimus Primal and Megatron was bat and alligator mod.

I always assumed they started out as a sub-faction (like dinobots, arialbots, headmasters, etc.) and eventually they had advantages that made more 'bots reformat themselves to become maximals.  Same with the cons.

Was also thinking along those lines. There is a distinct difference between Autobots and Maximals. They share several of the same ideas and the maximals are descendents of the Autobots, but the Autobots themselves are still around (Megatron states sometime during BW that he plans to return to Cybertron and conquer the Maximals and Autobots).

 

I've always felt that since the Maximal technology is significantly different from the "old fashioned" Autobot design and because they are newly created TF, they've chosen to create a new group: the Maximals. Truth be told, I've always held the opinion that Cybertron initially held more groups and that these were through the war, gathered in Autobots & Decepticons (and some leftover Empties). The creation of more factions once the war was won and peace and freedom restored, would be no more than a natural development. The Maximals, being newly created, would form a new group.

 

(Might also have something to do with distancing themselves from the war thorn past.)

well i thought they didnt have animal alt modes on cybertron because in beast machines when megatron used the virus on cybertron. the bat bot (nightscream i think?) was shown in his original form that looks like a action master or could transform in 2 a cybertronian car or what not?

Inconsistensies between Beast Wars and Beast Machines?!?!? Geeeeez really?!?!    :tflaugh 

Ravage stated that after the great war, many Decepticons were granted amnesty by the Predacons. If you know what Amnesty means, then this becomes clear.

 

Sometime after the Great War, the Predacons became more powerful (politically) than the Decepticons did. This would be quite easy with all Decepticon leadership missing. I say politically because they were able to operate on Cybertron, and be a part of the group that controlled the planet without conflict (under treaty.) Therefore, something must have happened that made the Decepticons banned from Cybertron for one reason or another. Therefore their options would be to be granted amnesty by the Predacons or be exiled from Cybertron. Or join the Autobots I imagine.

 

However, the details of the Autobots history at this point is also unclear. Since they did not exist at the time of Beast Wars, and were never mentioned, isn't it possible that they had suffered the same fate? Who's to say exactly that the Autobots simply became Maximals? Doesn't it seem odd that the only other "Maximals" before the pre-Beast Wars era was on the planet of Torkulon? A planet where it's people were organic and were known to specialise in brainwashing others, including robots? And that planet was destroyed by Galvatron.

 

It has always been my theory that the Maximals of Torkulon had wished to get revenge against Galvatron, and infiltrated Cybertron. And created the Maximals and re-created Cybertron in the image of their destroyed homeworld... culminating in the organic reformatting of it at the end of Beast Machines.

 

While it may have been made up with no foreknowledge of this episode (webworld) or the name was chosen to be something the fans would pick up on, it doesn't matter if you simply think story wise. I would find it strange if it was determined that the two weren't related in someway.

There are no inconsistencies between BW and BM kthx :thumb

 

In Beast Machines, Nightscream explains that all Maximals contain built-in DNA scanners for beast modes. Therefore they don't use stasis pods anymore. This is a surprise to Rattrap and the others, who are "out of the loop" b/c they have been gone for a while on account of the Beast Wars. Nightscream's old body was "Cybertronian" because he had no need for a beast mode. But when Megatron unleashed his virus, Nightscream fled underground, where he fell into a pit and went offline. His body's internal DNA scanner created a beast mode for him based on fossils in the cave he fell into -- just like the original beast modes in Beast Wars were created for the Maximals and Predacons. However, he remained unable to transform. He subsisted on organic food (as the Maxis/Preds were able to do in Beast Wars) until he was reformatted by Optimus Primal.

 

Oh BTW to answer the question: the Maximal / Predacon names were just part of Hasbro's reinvention of the TF property. Originally, Primal and Megatron *were* G1 Prime and Megatron.
