why were maximals called maximals they are the ansecstors of autobots so why was the name changed.

yes if primal orderd his toops about by calling them all autobots, it would b a lil odd as there all animals, but if megatron called his troops decepticons it would sound ok 2 me.... any 1 else wonderd this

possibly to herald in the permenant change over from the rough Transformations of the past into the more "perfect" animal modes of the current times?

I thought about this for a long time also & all I could come up with is Transformers did change (they got smaller) so maybe a name change was for the best.

It helped to distinguish the upgraded versions from the older versions when all four factions existed at once.

I always assumed they started out as a sub-faction (like dinobots, arialbots, headmasters, etc.) and eventually they had advantages that made more 'bots reformat themselves to become maximals.  Same with the cons.

not realy, just that they knew they were past a certain point in their history and development. I like to think that the name predicons was taken up because they played a great role in creating or converting decepticons maybe even all of cybertron, over to the new method.

I thought it was because they decided to all that more fuel effective animal modes.

Agreed.  In the show, they didn't say that they picked animal alts because no vehicles were available.  The DNA scan thing shows that this type of thing was routine, and that they were built with this end in mind; a new era in Transformers.

or perhaps the beast wars creators wanted to have a fresh approch or did,nt know what the hell they were doing.... like the spark that comes out of optimus prime to go to optimus primal... without searching about the matrix first and almost screwed that up ....

 

personnally i think they should have stayed with autobot/decepticon....

 

since they were not even animals when they arrived on earth i have a hard time justifying the reason of their factions maximals/predacons but it would have made since to rename AFTER their format and not before...

 

but at least they kept the timeline right... from my perspective at least....
